Power button does not shut down Windows (IdeaPad 520)

2017-12-08, 22:50 PM

Hi. I have bought an IdeaPad 520 notebook. On my previous laptop (Lenovo G580), I was used to pressing the power button to shut it down. But it seems the power button on my IP 520 can only be used to power on the laptop and force shut down by holding it for a few seconds. Is this a normal behaviour and it's meant to be like that or is there a setting somewhere which I can check out to enable the power button to shut down the laptop by pressing it once? Thank you.

You can specify the action of the power button in the power plan's "Advanced Settings".  You should be able to choose between:

(1) Shutdown

(2) Hibernate

(3) Sleep

(4) Do nothing

Doing this was my first attempt at solving this issue myself before posting here. But it didn't work. I had set the power button action to Shut Down on both battery and plugged-in modes. In fact none of the four listed options (including Turn off the display) works for the power button.

I had this problem too but you have to hold down the power button for more than one second to bring it into sleep mode. More than 5 seconds will shut it down:

It seems to be hard wired this way.
