Re: plugged in , not charging lenovo ideapad 500 15isk

Hi Mina,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

1)  Shut down the computer.

2)  With the battery in (but AC adapter removed), attempt to turn on the computer by holding down the power button for 30 sec. This should not turn on the computer.

3)  Remove the battery.

4)  Again, attempt to turn on the computer (AC adapter not plugged in) by holding down the power button for 30 sec.  This should not turn on the computer either.

5)  Replace battery, plug in the AC adapter, and turn on the computer.  The battery should begin charging.

I hope the above information helps.

Regards,

Shashi

Re: plugged in , not charging lenovo ideapad 500 15isk

You need to make sure that the power management software of your computer is updated. Check this link.

Maybe you can try to change the power management mode in the Energy Management tool. I’m not sure what mode it has because it seems to always changing so give it a try. There was once i remember one of the mode would have the charging start at certain level to have longer battery life span.

Also, please do check that under the battery menu in Lenovo energy management, IT IS SET TO 'MAXIMUM BATTERY LIFE' to enable charging to 100%, not Optimised battery health as this will allow your battery to have a longer lifespan

I hope the above information helps.

Re: plugged in , not charging lenovo ideapad 500 15isk

Hi Mina,

There is no Power Manager for Windows 10.  Lenovo does not provide any feature to manage battery charge thresholds on Windows 10.  The IdeaPad systems that are on the Windows 10 supported system list here all have dual-mode battery firmware. The battery firmware itself will recognize the scenario where the battery is ALWAYS fully charged 100% (over a period of many weeks) and adjust the full charge capacity downwards in a way to maintain maximum battery health.  This is something that happens automatically in the battery firmware.  There is nothing that a user needs to do manually, to maximize battery health on these batteries.  For this reason, we don't provide any utility to manually manage battery charge thresholds on Windows 10.

However, still you can try doing below steps:

1. Get the latest power manager from Lenovo support site.
2. Run the downloaded file, it will fail saying “... doesn't work on this version of Windows ..." or similar
3. Go to C:\DRIVERS\VISTA\PWRMGRV and change setup.exe compatibility mode to windows 7
4. Go to https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/hardware/dn913721.aspx#adkwin10 and download "Windows ADK for Windows 10, Version 1511"
5. Run it and you only need to install "compatibility administrator"
6. Run "compatibility administrator", on the left, under System Database->Applications, click "Lenovo Power Manager"
7. On the right, right mouse click setup.exe and select "disable entry"
8. Now you are on the way installing and using power manager

Good luck!

Regards,

Shashi

Re: plugged in , not charging lenovo ideapad 500 15isk

Hi Mina,

Any modern machine will run Autocad and business applications.  More information would be helpful, like price range, touch options, pen-enabled, weight, normally plugged in vs. on-battery.  I think the T460s looks really interesting and has many configuration options.

Please feel free to utilize our forums at any time.

Cheers!!

Shashi
