BIOS version problem

my device is

Lenovo ideapad s540-15IWL GTX after recent bios update for version

BWCN19WW

the internal HDD (ST1000LM035-1RK172) , started to fail and this took me months to figure the problem but after searching for alot of time i found that this exact HDD model even in different laptop brands like Asus or Dell with bios updates is failing and i mean by failing that you suddenly find your laptop restarts and then the hard disk is not even detected in the system anymore at all and even in the disk management its only detected in bios so i tried to search for older versions on the the support site but they don't have any older versions or even when i requested old ones so if someone could help

Re:BIOS version problem

UPDATE 2 :

for Lenovo ideapad S540-15IWL GTX

problem solved  : the 1 TB / 1000 GB hdd  disk / ST1000LM035-1RK172 seagate disk  was not detected in the software / device manger / disk management but was detected only on bios,  if it was detected it was failing after nearly 5 minutes from powering on the machine

what i did:

1-downloaded all other drivers manually to the newest version from the official site

2- i deleted the disk from device manger  without restarting

3- then headed to install bios version BWCN15WW ( make sure bios back flash enabled in bios settings) ( the link for downloading the bios above in the article)

i did extend tests, SMART , linear read , etc via tools like Seatools (from Seagate official website ) and Lenovo diagnostics ( found in the drivers for the device in the support site)

and it passed no fails

the storage controller mode was AHCI

boot mode : UEFI

and secure boot was enabled but in the status disabled all other bios values was default values

BIOS version problem

Re:BIOS version problem

Hi nijjmi,

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your Lenovo ideapad s540-15IWL GTX after the recent BIOS update.

In addition to the suggestions made by other members of the community, I might suggest that you can try reloading the BIOS to defaults.

- Remove all cables connected to the device (power cable, hdmi, external mouse, external keyboard, etc)
- Be sure device is switched off / powered off
- Press and hold down the power button for 60 seconds
- When done, re-attach all cables
- Attach the  ac adapter and let the unit charge for about couple of minutes
- Locate your machine's Novo button from the either sides. Check this knowledge base showing how it would look like: https://support.lenovo.com/ph/en/solutions/ht062552-introduction-to-novo-button-ideapad
- Click this by using an unfolded paperclip or anything similar that would fit.
- Machine should power up and boot straight to Novo Menu.
- Navigate and select using the arrow keys to BIOS Set Up.

Reload the BIOS to defaults:
- Inside the BIOS Set Up, navigate to the Exit Menu.
- Select Load Setup Default - click Enter, select YES and click Enter.
- Select Exit and Save Changes then click Enter, select YES and click Enter.
- Laptop should boot back to Windows.

Other than the advise above in downgrading the BIOS, I suggest that you might want to check if your drive is faulty - it might need replacing. You can run a diagnostic scan for the machine.

If the problem persists, I would recommend reaching out to our technical support team through this link for further assistance.

Best regards.

Re:BIOS version problem

update: i tried lowering bios version the BWCN12WW was the most stable one and actually the hard stayed nearly 40 minutes without failing , but the problem still exists

before going to lower the bios i tried moat famous ways to solve the problem like cmd commands to fix/check/scan the disk

i even tried some quick tests on Lenovo diagnostic and seatools it passes but of course any extended test the disk fail

i tried changing to legacy boot and enabling/disabling secure boot and changing bios settings to default values

i tried windows updates all drivers updates

i just left with few options to but i am heading to a professional technical help in nearest time
