Bluetooth Mouse stuttering / not fluid problem Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 gen 7 (16ARH7)

  • My Laptop: Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 16ARH7 Model Number 82SC000PGE
  • Ryzen 6600H CPU, Nvidia RTX 3050Ti GPU
  • Windows 11 22H2 22621.1992 (July 2023)
  • Latest BIOS and drivers installed via Lenovo Vantage
  • Bought: 20th July 2023 (4 days ago)
  • Bluetooth Mouse: Microsoft Precision Mouse (rechargeable)

Problem occurs when: Using Mouse in Bluetooth mode (what it's designed for)

Problem does NOT occur when: Using mouse via USB, using mouse on any other device (tested on a Lenovo Ideapad S340, an HP Laptop, a Dell Laptop, all with Windows 10 installed)

Tried solutions so far with no prevail: Turning mouse off and on, unpairing and re-pairing, uninstalling and re-installing drivers, reinstalling Windows 11, tinkering with the official Microsoft Precision mouse application, changing DPI settings etc., tinkering with windows mouse settings (unchecking mouse trail etc.)

VERY CURIOUS: Problem is resolved when letting the mouse fall into sleep mode (usually after ~1min) and waking it up again, but that doesn't work every time! Seamingly random!

Hi guys I tried to put all the information I think will help you at the top of my request, now to the problem:

When moving the mouse the pointer has small micro stutters (~1ms) - the mouse pointer doesn't move fluid across the screen. This is very noticeable in games but also during normal use. It feels like the mouse pointer gets stuck every 0.3 seconds and skips a beat. It is very noticeable when upping the mouse speed in mouse settings, then the pointer very noticeably skips around. Lets say you physically move the mouse 1 unit every second. In reality what happens is that every 0.3-0.4 seconds the mouse moves 1.5 units, then 0.5 units then 0.x units 1.x units etc. it skips beats or doesnt "refresh" fluidly, only seemingly random.

Like mentioned above it's magically fixed when letting the mouse sleep and wake up, though not always. It's also fixed when using the mouse wired instead of over bluetooth. Problem doesn't occur on other devices, only this one.

It's a bummer, I really love this new laptop it's very powerful compared to my other PC's/Laptops I used and I would be so happy with it if the Bluetooth problem didn't exist. If there is no fix I feel forced to return this Laptop.

Thanks in advance, kind regards

Re:Bluetooth Mouse stuttering / not fluid problem Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 gen 7 (16ARH7)

Greetings @Alekazzle.

Sorry to read that your mouse is is lagging or has delays when being used.

I'm only commenting one thing in this thread, if this stuttering and if this Bluetooth mouse is not fluid, have you tried any other similar mouse (connecting only through Bluetooth) to isolate the issue?

Are there any other noticeable Bluetooth related issues like issues in a wireless headset or sending a file via Bluetooth?

Perhaps other similar Bluetooth-only connecting mouse would not function like this.

Regards.

Re:Bluetooth Mouse stuttering / not fluid problem Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 gen 7 (16ARH7)

Hi @Dex_Lenovo

Thank you for reaching out. Based on your feedback here is what I tried out next with surprising results:

Bluetooth Connection:

  1. Another BT Mouse: Problem PERSISTS!
  2. Another BT Mouse + simultaneously my main BT Mouse: Problem is GONE! For both mice.
  3. My main BT Mouse + Bluetooth Gamepad: Problem is GONE!
  4. Another BT Mouse + Bluetooth Gamepad: Problem is GONE!
  5. Bluetooth Gamepad alone: Gamepad seems to work just fine, no stuck buttons or anything.
  6. BT Mouse + iPhone 13: Problem PERSISTS
  7. BT Mouse + another Lenovo Laptop: Problem PERSISTS
  8. BT Mouse + BT Headset: Problem is GONE but only while listening to music or when in a Teams/Zoom meeting. The headset works just fine. No connection drops or anything. When closing the music application: Problem comes back. When closing and exiting Teams/Zoom: Problem still gone.
  9. BT Headset alone: Still works just fine no problems.
  10. While sharing a file over Bluetooth to any device: Problem is GONE! Problem returns once file sharing is complete/interrupted

File Sharing:

  1. To Lenovo Laptop: Works
  2. To iPhone 13: Doesn't work (might have another cause?)

Wireless connection over dongle:

  1. Sony Pulse 3D Headset: Works
  2. Jabra Link Headset: Works

Other:

  1. Using my iPhone 13 as a Mouse by using an App (Remotemouse) + App Client for Windows (Remotemouse dot net): Works (non Bluetooth, requires both devices to be on the same network)

Hope this helps you further determine the problem. Regards.

Re:Bluetooth Mouse stuttering / not fluid problem Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 gen 7 (16ARH7)

Hi.

Thank you for sharing these.

Looks like the Bluetooth mouse has no problem.

In my own opinion, using a Bluetooth mouse would not be ideal in the set up, best ones would be an external wired or a wireless (dongle) mouse. I don't think there is still a need to troubleshoot the Bluetooth, I see there is no problem with the Bluetooth of your device. There is a potential compatibility issue between the device and the mouse. I'd recommend it would be best to use either external wired mouse or a wireless mouse instead.

Regards.

Re:Bluetooth Mouse stuttering / not fluid problem Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 gen 7 (16ARH7)

Hi

Clearly, there is a problem with the bluetooth connection.

I want a solution, not a "just don't use your mouse in bluetooth".

I want to use my mouse in bluetooth mode, I use it for my work laptop too and don't want to work around by thinking "okay now I'm using my private Laptop, let me plug in my mouse really quick".

If you are not able to determine my problem just tell me, I alone have tried everything I can so I went to Lenovo support as a last resort. I am more than willing to provide whatever tests are needed.

From what I see a solution might be to keep the bluetooth transceiver/receiver "running". Anytime bluetooth is in use (playing music over headset, gamepad connected) the mouse seems to work just fine. Is there any way to keep bluetooth "running" in the background?

Thanks in advance. Regards
