IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6 black screen

I went to sleep with my laptop charging, put in Sleep mode. Today I can’t turn it on. There is keyboard light, factory color, not the color I use and usually see when I turn the laptop on. Nothing seems to respond to whatever I did. I held the on/off button for a minute, charged the laptop again, nothing changed.
Another thing: sometimes the laptop would turn off when I moved it around, holding power button to force shut down and turn on again would solve the problem.

Is there any way to fix it because I don’t have much time? I had another RAM installed when I bought the laptop, and I’m currently in another country, not where I bought the laptop so I’m not sure if warranty is still available.

Re:IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6 black screen

Hi BTHao,

I'm sorry to hear about the issue you're experiencing with your IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6. Here are a few steps you could try:

  1. Perform a power drain: Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printer, etc.), shut down the laptop, disconnect the AC adapter and then press and hold the power button for 15 seconds. After that, reconnect the AC adapter and try to turn on the laptop.

  2. Try to boot into BIOS: If the laptop still doesn't turn on, try to boot into BIOS by pressing the F1 key repeatedly immediately after turning on the laptop. If you can get into BIOS, it means the issue might be related to the operating system or the hard drive.

  3. Alternatively, you can try to combine the 2 steps above and you can identify the issue on your laptop.

    Perform a static discharge/power cycle
    - Remove all cables connected to the device (power cables, hdmi, external mouse, external keyboard, flashdrives, etc.)
    - Be sure device is switched off / powered off
    - Press and hold down the power button for 60 seconds
    - When done, re-attach all cables
    - Attach the  ac adapter and let the unit charge for about couple of minutes
    - When done, power up the machine as usual either through power button or Novo button: https://support.lenovo.com/ph/en/solutions/ht062552-introduction-to-novo-button-ideapad

See if the machine entered no p.o.s.t., no display, or no power.

    No power.

It would be a no power issue if the machine showed no signs of power light indicator at all. Either from the power button or from nearby port lights and there is no sign of fan running.

It is also a no power issue if the machine showed active power light indicators once power button is pressed but died eventually. The machine can no longer hold power.

    No p.o.s.t.

On the other hand, it would be a no p.o.s.t. issue if the machine has power light indicators active, but no signs of fan spinning and did not proceed on booting to windows log in. If this ever happened, I suggest tapping on the capslock/numlock key for any possible light that would respond. If the capslock/numlock light key is unresponsive after consecutive taps, it means that the unit had problem performing a p.o.s.t. process.

Another sign of no p.o.s.t. can show that the machine has power light indicators, has an active spinning fan, and has active capslock lights but still does not boot to windows. If this is the case, tap on the capslock light key if this particular key would respond (on and off) on any taps. If it does not respond and stayed solid, it means it has an internal hardware issue with the unit.

This is a sign of possible internal hardware failure. The unit is no longer able to recognize external hardware command from the keyboard.

    No display.

Lastly, if your machine shows power light indicators, has active fans, and the capslock key is responsive on taps, try connecting the device to an external monitor. Observe if the unit will extend any display to the monitor from the laptop.

It is called a no display if the laptop still works but relies entirely on external monitor to work.

What turned out to be the issue with your machine?

If your laptop is still not powering up even after these steps (make sure you classify the issue based on those 3 issues above), then this is a hardware failure.

Regarding the warranty, you can check if your system's warranty is covered worldwide here. If you need further assistance, you can submit a service request for technical support here.

I hope this helps. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask.

Re:IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6 black screen

Hi.

Thank you for the response.

Yes, the suggested steps are not meant to fix the device, it is meant "to identify the issue".

This is your description of the laptop in your initial post.

So, the question here is, if you have read the suggested steps carefully and performed it, which of the three (3) issues mentioned issues resembles the current issue in your laptop?

Is it a no power issue?

Is it a no p.o.s.t. issue?

Or is it a no display issue?

Feel free to share us an update when convenient.

Regards.
Dex

Hi rohandakua,

Sorry to read that you are also having the same issue.

If you're experiencing a no p.o.s.t. issue, it could be a sign of a hardware problem. In a no p.o.s.t. issue, the most common solution is to have the board replaced and this is something that the technicians do.

I would recommend you to contact Lenovo technical support or visit a local authorized service center to have your laptop checked. You can submit a service request for technical support here or find a local authorized service center here.

Before you do that, you might want to check the warranty status of your product here to see if your system is still under warranty.

I hope this helps. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask.
