Hello!

Really desperate for help and would be immensely appreciative if someone on here could help - feel like I've tried everywhere online, maybe I should have come to the Lenovo forums first...

Context: Purchased a Lenovo Idea pad 330 large screen just over two years ago - almost to the day! Understand it was a relatively budget laptop think I paid about £260. It was because I lost a job and needed a laptop to do some freelance work and job hunt. It was always a bit slow but did me great at the time, it has been carefully boxed away for the past 7 months and not used.

Problem: I need to use it again so boosted it back up and since it's been really slow. I checked and from opening (let alone before I open any programme) it seems to be running at 100%CPU and 100% disk from the moment it's running.

I've tried: Factory re-set, updating all drives, reducing image quality and increasing power, turning off window updates (tips etc). 

Nothing is working, still the laptop is running awful. I have read a few posts which said this Lenovo laptop is know for that. Is that true does anyone know? Hope not because it's out of warranty :(.

Welcome to the Community. Try booting into Safe Mode to see if the same thing is happening. Open Task Manager, go to the processes tab, sort by CPU use and see if you can figure out which program or process is consuming all the resources. Especially look for anything that says "GOTO" or some form of Install.

Thanks for the welcome and for the advice! 

Followed everything you said and when I eventually able to get into safe mode (took a while!) it started off at 100% CPU and 50% memory but dropped to about 40%/30% quite quickly but then fluctuated up to 60% CPU regularly. The culprits for high % were the things below:

Service Host - Cryptographic Services
Antimalware Service Executable 

Any chance it rings any bells for you? Couldn't see Disk when in safe mode.
