Intel Iris Xe vs Intel UHD

I have recently bought lenovo ideapad slim 3 i5-1335u (16IRU8). It was advertised as it has intel iris xe graphics on the vendor website. But I tried couple of games (Car mechanic simulator and House flipper 2, I love simulator games) and didnt get expected performance as they are not very big games. After some research I found out you need dual channel memory to activate Intel Iris XE otherwise it works on Intel UHD.

I cant even make this laptop dual channel because it comes with a 8GB LPDDR5-4800 solded memory. There is no other slot. I have no idea what is the purpose of Lenovo to limit such capability.

I want to know would there be much difference in intel uhd and iris xe? Did I make a mistake buying this laptop which cannot upgrade memory and use its processors full potential?

Re:Intel Iris Xe vs Intel UHD

Welcome to Lenovo Community xtreamrd,

I understand your concern about the performance of your Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 i5-1335u (16IRU8). Have you checked the laptop's BIOS settings to ensure that the system recognizes and is configured to use the integrated graphics appropriately?

The Intel Iris Xe graphics do indeed perform better than the Intel UHD, especially in gaming. However, the performance can be affected by various factors, including the memory configuration.

As you've mentioned, your laptop comes with a single-channel memory, which can limit the performance of the integrated graphics. Unfortunately, as the memory is soldered onto the motherboard, it's not possible to upgrade it to a dual-channel configuration.

That being said, the performance difference between Intel UHD and Iris Xe can vary depending on the specific tasks or games. For less demanding games or tasks, the difference might not be very noticeable. However, for more demanding games or tasks, the Iris Xe would generally perform better.

As for whether you made a mistake in buying this laptop, it really depends on your specific needs and expectations. If you primarily use your laptop for less demanding tasks or games, then this laptop should serve you well. However, if you frequently play more demanding games or use more demanding applications, then a laptop with a dual-channel memory configuration might have been a better choice.

I hope this information helps. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask.

Best regards,

Hassen_Lenovo
