Lenovo Ideapad 330s-151kb hdd to ssd +ram upgrade
Hello, I am trying to figure out the maximum ram that can be added to my laptop and an ssd recommendation any help would be appreciated
Greetings @Turboslayer.
Just chiming in to share my additional insight.
I checked the general specs of ideapad 330S-15IKB,
I checked the internet for some third party resellers of ram and saw that the max ram for this model is up to 20GB.
Just install a 16GB ram stick on the ram slot in addition to the 4GB and it will be a total of 20GB.
It looks like there is also a 2.5" hard drive bay.
You can upgrade the 2.5" hard drive into a 2.5" SATA SSD instead in order to boost the performance and speed of the laptop.
You are technically free to choose any brand of ram and any brand of 2.5" SATA SSD for upgrading your machine.
There are 2.5" SATA SSD drives in the market that can reach up to 2TB or 4TB but the price also goes up along with the capacity.
Just keep in mind that these are third party items for upgrade, hence, when purchasing third party items for the laptop we advise to always check on return options with the reseller just in case anything happens during and after the upgrade.
Regards.
Dex

Your feedback helps us improve!Hello,
Different suppliers have different recommendations for maximum capacity. Follow the individual supplier recommendation, searching by your computer model details.
Lenovo parts are tested by Lenovo, third party parts might be tested by the third party suppliers.
Navigate to support.lenovo.com find PC support link and carefully plot your model and type information into menu. Or use auto detect button Parts link will show available Lenovo parts
OR navigate to your favorite third party supplier, and carefully plot your model and type information into search, or fitment database. Or use the suppliers auto detect app and find list of compatible parts.
Let us know how it goes,

Your feedback helps us improve! The RAM in the 330S-15IKB can be upgraded to 36GB with a 32GB stick. I just tested this and the BIOS recognizes it as well as Linux Mint booted up and diagnostics.
Hi bbaker6212,
Thank you for sharing your experience. It's great to hear that you were able to upgrade the RAM to 36GB with a 32GB stick and that it's working well with your system. This information will be very helpful to other users considering a similar upgrade.
Please keep in mind that while the system may recognize and work with more RAM, Lenovo officially recommends a maximum of 20GB for the Ideapad 330S-15IKB. Using more than this could potentially lead to system instability or other issues.
Best regards.

Hi,
I understand your concerns and I appreciate your feedback. The maximum RAM capacity that we recommend is based on the specifications provided by the manufacturer and extensive testing done by our engineers.
While it's true that some users, like yourself, have successfully installed and used more RAM than the recommended amount, it's important to note that doing so can potentially lead to issues. These can range from system instability to hardware damage, as the system was not originally designed to handle more than the recommended capacity.
The reason we initially stated a lower maximum RAM capacity could be due to a variety of factors, including advancements in technology and further testing. We always strive to provide the most accurate and up-to-date information to our users.
Going back, if you have upgraded your ram and you seem happy with it - then that's good to know, we're proud and happy for you and thanks for taking the time to share your findings.
Best regards.

If anyone else wants to try this, here is the 32GB RAM stick I used.
It could be overkill for the 330S but anyway I bought it for use in another different brand notebook:
Corsair 32GB DDR4 SODIMM 3200 CMSX32GX4M1A3200C22
Other good brands like Crucial will prob work also, I'm guessing :)
