Space bar stuck down

My space bar was squeaking when I used it, so I removed it to clean out and put back. Now I’ve tried taking it out and putting it back several times and every time I try, the key becomes stuck down and I am unable to use it. Nothing appears wrong or obstructive.

Re:Space bar stuck down

Hi cwill21,

Damages like this on keyboard requires replacing the entire keyboard as a resolution.

Lenovo does not offer a single key repair and there is also no single FRU PN (part number) on Lenovo Parts Look Up site that represents a single key.

It might be best to consult a professional tech so they can do the repair and service for you. You can find an Authorized Service Center near you for further assistance.

If you need further assistance, feel free to submit a Service Request or contact Lenovo Support.

Best regards,

Space bar stuck down

Re:Space bar stuck down

Hi guest45400,

Thank you for reaching out to the Lenovo Community!

I'm sorry to know about the issue you're experiencing with your space bar.

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the problem:

  1. Check the Key Mechanism: Ensure that the key mechanism (the small plastic pieces under the keycap) is properly aligned and not damaged. Sometimes, these pieces can be misaligned or broken, causing the key to stick.

  2. Clean Thoroughly: Even though you've cleaned it, there might still be some debris or dust causing the issue. Use a can of compressed air to blow out any remaining particles from the key area.

  3. Reattach Carefully: When reattaching the space bar, make sure to press down evenly on both sides to ensure it snaps back into place correctly. The space bar often has stabilizer bars that need to be aligned properly.

  4. Check for Obstructions: Double-check the area around the space bar for any small obstructions that might be causing it to stick.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it might be best to consult a professional. You can find an Authorized Service Center near you for further assistance.

Additionally, you can refer to the Lenovo Service Videos for visual guidance on how to properly reattach keys.

If you need further assistance, feel free to submit a Service Request or contact Lenovo Support.

Best regards,
Dex_Lenovo

Re:Space bar stuck down

The only potential thing I can find is that this little piece is missing the tab on the right, but the other side is fine and it’s both sides that are stuck. Also, despite the tab missing, the key still clicks into place perfectly fine.
