WiFi Speeds are Slow

I'm having this issue of my WiFi speeds being slower than expected. I used https://www.speedtest.net/ and the download was about 100 Mbps and upload about 30 Mbps. I've tested the WiFi on different computers in my house and they are faster than my L340-15IRH Gaming Laptop (ideapad) - Type 81LK. I made sure I had the most up to date WiFi driver. I'm on Windows 11. I'm not sure what else I can try. Any assistance is appreciated!

Re:WiFi Speeds are Slow

Hi.  I'm experiencing similar problems with slow downloads and poor network speeds in general on my Lenovo products.  I've already posted a cry for help on the forum and there have been some good suggestions for things to try.  Here's the link to the post:-

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-IdeaPad-1xx-3xx-5xx-7xx-Edge-LaVie-Z-Flex-Laptops/Lenovo-Ideapad-320-15ABR-Wireless-Network-Bandwith-Limited-with-Windows-11/m-p/5339408?page=1#6458333

Although I had already tried most of these suggestions (and a few others) without improvement, there may be something in there that fixes your issue.

Perhaps someone else out there has found a fix, or if anyone from Lenovo can help, that would be great.

Good luck!

Re:WiFi Speeds are Slow

Hello Obbo_0.

Welcome to the community.

Apologies for the troubles that you're having with your laptop. When did you encounter this issue? Is it after installing a particular driver or Windows update? Did you upgrade your laptop from Windows 10 to Windows 11?

First, please make sure that your system has the latest BIOS and driver updates via Lenovo Vantage app. In addition, check if there are any pending Windows Updates that needs to be installed.

I also suggest for you to check and apply the steps below to improve the laptop's Wi-Fi performance:

1. Check Power Settings: Ensure your laptop's power settings are not limiting the WiFi performance. Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options and select High Performance.

2. Network Adapter Settings: Go to Device Manager > Network adapters, right-click on your WiFi adapter, and select Properties. Under the Advanced tab, ensure settings like Wireless Mode and Preferred Band are optimized for your network.

3. Try a Different Network: Temporarily disconnect from the current Wi-Fi network then connect your laptop on a different wireless network and rerun the speed test.

Let us know how it goes.

Re:WiFi Speeds are Slow

Hi, thank you for the suggestions. I did not notice this happening after I upgraded to Windows 11 but it could have affected it, I'm just not sure. My BIOS and drivers did not need to update. I did the steps you have given but I'm still getting the same results.

Re:WiFi Speeds are Slow

I'd like to verify, does the same issue occurs even when the laptop is connected on a different Wi-Fi network? Here are some additional steps that you can apply:

1. Disable Power Saving Mode for WiFi Adapter:
- Go to Device Manager > Network adapters.
- Right-click on your WiFi adapter and select Properties.
- Under the Power Management tab, uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."

2. Reset Network Settings:
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
- Scroll down and click on "Network reset."

Update us how things go.

Re:WiFi Speeds are Slow

Hi, thank you for the suggestions. I tried on a different WiFi network and did the steps you've said but I still get the same results. Is there anything else I can try? Thank you for the assistance.

Re:WiFi Speeds are Slow

Thank you for your patience and for trying the previous suggestions.  Let's explore a few more troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:

1. Change WiFi Channel:
- If your router is set to auto-select channels, it might be on a crowded channel. Access your router settings and try changing the WiFi channel to a less congested one (e.g., channels 1, 6, or 11 for 2.4 GHz).

2. Disable Background Applications:
- Some background applications can consume bandwidth. Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check for any applications that might be using the network heavily. Disable or close them temporarily to see if it improves your WiFi speed.

3. Check for Interference:
- Ensure there are no physical obstructions or electronic devices (like microwaves, cordless phones) near your laptop that could interfere with the WiFi signal.

If same issue, provide us the product number that would look like 21D20000US from the sticker or Vantage app or typing sysinfo in the search box. This will help us to get more details about your machine variant.

Please keep us updated on your progress, thanks.

Re:WiFi Speeds are Slow

Hi.  Has anyone found a solution for this?  I've tried all these suggestions and more (including replacing the wi-fi card with a higher performance model) but my download speed still seems capped at ~150Mbps under Windows 11 Pro but achieves ~500Mbps under Linux.
