14alc05 win10 - unstable Wi-Fi 5Ghz

2021-10-14, 11:59 AM

Hello!

I have a new laptop - Lenovo ideapad 14alc05.

Windows 10 (20H2) - latest update.

Network adapter driver: 2024.0.8.127 (Realtek 8822ce) - this version is specified on lenovo site in driver downloads section.

Really ofter after power on laptop can not connect to Wi-Fi 5Ghz. Sometimes it connects, but has no internet. Sometimes it does not see 5Ghz networks at all. Sometimes it just works.

But it connects 2.4ghz nicely.

Windows troubleshooting, reseting adapter and so on help for a while, but problem occures again and again.

All the other devices: phones, TV, second laptop - do not have such issues.

Is there any solution except changing wi-fi adapter (I hope by warranty).

hi again

since it is reported as a common failure, go to an official lenovo service point and show them this forum's article.

ask them with a replacement with a different but still compatible card, with a different chip on it.

It is in warranty, thus it should be free of charge, and you will not lose the official warranty

Welcome to the Community Forums @violarium

I might suggest that you share the complete machine type model / MTM (ex. 81C70000RK or 20UD000BUS) from the sticker usually located under the case. This would help find more details about your machine variant, while keeping the confidentiality of your serial number.

If you can't find any sticker under the device showing the machine type model / MTM, check this link as guide how to find it within Windows. Please do not include the machine serial number (S/N): https://support.lenovo.com/ph/en/videos/vid100751-how-to-locate-serial-number-and-machine-type-model-number-may-2020-update

I'd advise to try downloading the wireless driver from the support site using your machine serial number (SN), then save it to your desktop initially. Then uninstall the current  wireless drivers from your Device Manager, be sure to tick the checkbox on the uninstallation prompt to fully uninstall the driver.

Install the wireless driver you have downloaded earlier from the support page. When the process is complete, restart the machine and then test the 5Ghz connection again.

It would also be worth a try to test the machine on other 5Ghz network (aside from your network) and see if the same issue would occur.

Lastly, you may try booting the machine to safe mode with networking then test your desired network if it will work there.

Regards.

Dex

My MTM is 82LM00A6RK. But nothing helped. Driver from lenovo site - wifi appeared, but, agan, has gone after reboot. In safe mode with network (f5) adapter does not work at all. Safe mode work poorly actually, system becames really lagy. Lenovo Vantage updated BIOS and scanned all the devices - no success as well. I do not have another wi-fi 5Ghz, but all the devices in my home work well with it. 2.4Ghz works like a clock.

hi

safe mode is not supposed to load wifi, ethernet, gpu and many more drivers, so no worries about that :)

2,4GHz bands, have less speed but more distance

5GHz band is faster but has less distance covered

Do you by any chance , have the problems when you're a bit far from the router or there are walls between your laptop and the router ?

ps

win 10 21H1 is the latest update, but this should not be the problem.

Hello, thank you for response.

No, I have pretty smal appartment and full signal everywhere.

I have bought new router with 5Ghz for speed recently and bumped into this.

It actually seems to be related to this problem: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-IdeaPad-1xx-3xx-5xx-7xx/To-All-the-Owners-of-Notebooks-With-Realtek-8822BE-Wifi-Card/td-p/4368276

There are recent messages about 8822ce as well. People change it with intel ax200 with success (such adapter used by my legion 5).

But I do not want to do it by myself and lose warranty.

Hello again. Lenovo online support was literally useles. So I went to SP in my city. They replaced Wi-Fi module with Intel AX200 (which I was thinking about to replace by myself). It was covered by warranty. Now everything is perfect.
