Re: 530s-14ARR - DIMM slots, ssd upgrade and Freesync compatibility

The SSD is held at place by a screw in a 2242 position. the motherboard lacks screw hole in the 2280 position. However, it does have a metallic shielding with clips that can accomodate a 2280 drive and will keep the drive in place. you can also add high temperature pcb tejp to hold the SSD even more in place. But honestly I don't think it should be a problem since the backpanel is supporting the metal shroud, which is then supporting the SSD. You need aggressive drops that will probably break the machine before the SSD pops out.

Re: 530s-14ARR - DIMM slots, ssd upgrade and Freesync compatibility

It would be best if the standoff screw retainer at 42mm is removed. Unless you are very careful and buy a single sided 2280 board the underside of the 2280 NVMe will hit the standoff screw retainer. It will probably not sit well with 2280 NVMe board components pressed on the 2242 standoff. I'm not sure of the notebook cover can be installed with a double sided 2280 NVMe cramed between the 2242 standoff screw.

Unfortunately I saw the 2280 intel spec and 2280 length cover and purchased a double sided 2280 NVMe for the AMD model. I might try to see if how the standoff screw retainer can be removed, but might wait for my warrantee to expire first.

Anyone have any thoughts on removing the 2242 standoff screw retainer?

Ending up installing a 2280 nvme, the intel 660p 1TB. Its a single sided board with nothing underneath. It sits on the standoff bracket at 42mm and can still be installed flat. My recommendation for upgrading the storage is to be very careful and get a single side NVME.

The intel 660p 1TB does seem to be running hotter than the hynix 2242 NVME that came with 14ARR. Strange since the 660p has lower power specs.
