720S-13ARR: can't update BIOS (6KCN28WW to 6KCN41WW)

2019-05-05, 9:06 AM

Hello,

I've just purchased my 720S-13ARR (model 81BR) and it seems I can't update BIOS to latest version. (from 6KCN28WW to 6KCN41WW)

It says that my current Windows 10 Home 1809 version is too high and not supported. (Version 10.0.17763 Build 17763)

Please see the attachment below.

My question is, could you please kindly advise me what to do (well downgrading windows would be really pain for me to be honest just to flash latest bios) or [Lenvoo Team] if possible release a hotfix for 1809 version of Windows ?

Thanks a lot fo reply in advance, I am looking forward to hear from you,

Hi Mydevilroot! Welcome to our forums community. Try running the Wibdows update here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10. We suggest you to run the Lenovo Vantage app in updating drivers. You can get the app here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/lenovo-vantage/9wzdncrfj4mv?activetab=pivot:overviewtab.

Hi Jwes,

Thank you kindly for reply, the very first thing I've done after purchasing laptop and connecting it to internet was executing Windows 10 Update Assistant, so windows is already up to date, as I've mentioned in my first post.

The Lenovo Vantage app is not showing any bios updates available.

I was able however to update from 6KCN28WW to 6CKN30WW, but still I can't update bios to latest version available.

(just a note worth to mention, when I was on 28WW, the vantage app didn't showed me that 30WW bios version is available, so seem;'s the app can;t check bios updates for some reason for this model...)

I am still hoping that someone from Lenovo Team will fix that asap.

I've also purchased second 720S-13ARR for my girlfriend, so yeah, 2 laptops that I have in house are affected by this issue.

Thanks a lot for reply in advance, I am looking forward to hear from you,

Regards,

Hi,

Read this thread https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-IdeaPad-1xx-3xx-5xx-7xx/IdeaPad-720s-13ARR-if-the-bios-won-t-be-updated-anymore/td-p/4094640?page=10

The solution part is on page 10 although I recommend reading the complete thread.

I've successfully updated my laptop from v28 to v44.

With version 28 I had an annoying message in Linux logs every 2s and the new version fixed that. Maybe v30 would have fixed that but I wanted to be on the most current branch.

Anyway, the procedure is not for the faint of heart but it works (at least it worked for me) and the files come from Lenovo.

I think it's like this because of structure change and also because it has to move the WIN10 OEM Keys from the old bios structure to the new one.

I would say this is the main reason why Lenovo didn't make it available as usual and decided to go the 2 version path.

Nevertheless, it can break you computer so use it at your own risk.
