Can the ideapads 100s without battery

2018-06-28, 16:37 PM

The battery began to swell.

I removed the battery thinking I could continue to use the laptop plugged in but it won't start up.

Is this laptop capable of running just on AC?

thanks in advance!

Same problem here. The battery swelled up so much that the keyboard was almost unusable. After removing the battery for safety sake until new one arrives, found out the laptop will not run WITHOUT BATTERY & on AC power!! Tried the old reset (holding power button 30 sec while unplugged) several times & still nothing. Any ideas?

I went ahead and ordered a new one off of EBAY.

Apparently is has to have the battery to run.

cheers!

Re: my laptop won't turn on

I was trying a universal charger on my laptop since my own charger was giving me problems. Upon trying this my laptop switched off and is unresponsive ever since. Is there a way I can fix it at home? In addition is it possible it can work by plugging in the charger with the battery removed?

It Should work without a battery but mine did not.

I had inadvertently left my Lenovo Ideapad plugged in for several weeks & the battery just overcharged & swelled up so the lid would hardly close.

(I won't say how I fixed that)

Ordinarily when a laptop won't start I would say remove the battery & power cord then hold down the power button for 30 seconds for a hard reset,

but unfortunately to remove the battery on this netbook you have to remove all 11 screws on the bottom (don't forget the one in the middle)

& (GENTLY) separate it from the laptop with a flat plastic tool (a little thicker than a credit card) to reset it, then snap the bottom back on again.

Then try a power cord (make sure it's the right one) to see if it'll turn on. If not, leave it plugged in overnight & try it again both with and without the power cord.

Is there a chance the universal charger was either non-functioning so the battery just drained of power, or that the UC was set to the wrong voltage so basically fried your machine?

Good luck.

It is doing the same thing with the stock plug-in. I just think these tiny things are not intended to work without the battery.
