Dead Lenovo Flex 3 1580

2021-04-07, 2:30 AM

Was running fine when I put it into hibernate, which I’ve done many times. Next morning it wouldn’t turn on. I checked the power button which had a light on, tried holding it down, hard reset, etc... when I checked again, power button light was off.

Now it’s just dead. I’ve tried:

  • Checking the power outlet (works fine)
  • Checking and Replacing the charging cable
  • booting from the pin-hole button
  • holding down power button
  • removing peripherals
  • checking power slot (nothing is loose, everything fine)

I’m at a loss here. Any suggestions? It doesn’t seem to be getting a charge at all despite a new power cable. I’d think the power light would at least turn on.

Hello EricWedde,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Thank you for posting here in the community boards. It's good to know that you have tried troubleshooting your machine right away.

I might suggest to try identifying the issue of your machine first by following the troubleshooting steps below.

Perform a static discharge/power cycle.
- Make sure there is still remaining battery power on the machine.
- Disconnect all cables connected to the machine (power, hdmi cable, external mouse/keyboard, etc).
- Ensure device is powered/switched off.
- Press and hold down power button for as long as 60 seconds.

Specifically turn on the machine on again using the Novo Button (a tiny pinhole with a U-turn arrow icon next to it) to turn on the device, the Novo menu will be shown in the screen. The machine, on the other hand, will turn on.

From this point if the power light would only respond, try to isolate the issues below:

No power -  machine has no signs of power light at all.
No post - machine has power indicator, try to tap on the capslock key for any light response - if no light response, this is a no post and the problem might be on the internal part of the machine.
No display - capslock responded and has power light indicator, try to connect an external screen to check possible signs of display.

Let us know.

Regards.

I can not verify if the battery has charge at this point.

disconnecting everything, holding down power button, and pressing pinhole button has no effect. No power indicators.

removing RAM and bios battery overnight had no effect.

Hi EricWedde,

Thank you for the response. I might suggest then to try getting in touch with a nearby service facility for your machine to be checked internally.

Regards.
