**!**Does the Lenovo 330s 14KIB (81F400GLIN) support Intel optane memory? and the belo listed SSDs?

2018-09-07, 19:23 PM

Hi! I bought one lenovo 330s 81F400GLIN model 2 months ago and as you all know, it comes with an extremely slow hard disk drive. I need to upgrade that by using ssd or intel optane.

Does this model support intel optane memory? Also, does it support the below listed M.2 SSDs?

WD Green SATA III

ADATA 8U00

ADATA SX6000 NVMe

ADATA SX8000
Samsung EVO

Hi SumantaBanerjee!

Welcome to our community forums!

Upon checking, some models support Intel Optane, you may check this link. We've also listed compatible part numbers for the SSD (see the pictures below). You may also check the Hardware Maintenance Manual page 73 item 11 to see the list of the compatible part numbers.

Let us know if you need anything else. Regards!

The hardware maintenace manual has NOT been updated to show Intel Optane memory in the parts list.

Your machine is "Intel Optane Ready".

You have a HDD spinner slot and a M.2 pci/e 3x4 slot.

The M.2 can hold ONE of the following:

(1) Intel Optane Memory, part 00UP480 3x2 2280

(2)pci/e 2280 3x4

(3)pcie/e 2242 3x2  <128GB or 256GB

I would go with the Samsung evo 970. The OPTANE MEMORY would be "glued" to the HDD spinner and cause a headache down the road, ie, HDD  spinner crashes.

I had to buy an SSD because the lenovo service personnels did not know if it is supported. I had to pay an overpriced 128GB NVMe M.2 SSD and came back home and discovered it supports optane in boot menu.

I feel extremely bad.

Still faster than a spinner!
Migrate the spinner OS to the M.2, if possible.,  Else reinstall windows on M.2.

Already did. Now the OS is installed in the M.2 drive and it is already 10 times fast while booting up. The 1TB basically performs like a memory card. It is extremely slow. I don't understand why they keep 5400rpm drive in laptop models over $500.

Hey, man. Sorry for reviving the thread, but I've also got the same model of the 330s and have bought a 256gb Samsung 960 evo NVMe PCIe SSD. Can you guide me through the step to clean install windows on the ssd? Do I need to simply unplug the HDD, plug in the SSD, do a fresh install from a uefi enabled bootable usb or are there any UEFI (BIOS) tweaks I need to make to make the ssd readable via UEFI and Windows?

If you are trying to move the OS from HDD to SSD, below are steps that you can take.

1. Create a recovery media from existing Windows 10 installation and use it to restore OS on new disk. How to do it:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4026852/windows-create-a-recovery-drive

2. You can also use a Windows 10 Media Creation tool to download installation image and create installation media:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

3. You also have an option to clone your HDD. You can refer to this link: https://lifehacker.com/how-to-migrate-to-a-solid-state-drive-without-reinstall-5837543

The video below contains a video instruction in tearing the computer. Hope that helps. You may refer to the photo attached.

Hope this helps.

Do I need to do any changes in BIOS before i install windows 10 on the SSD. As far as I know the SATA controller had to be set to Intel RST, secure boot needs to be disabled, and CSM needs to be disbaled as well. Also, my laptop doesn't have drivers for intel RST should I install it before I install windows?
