Extra SSD slot for Idea Flex 5-1470 Signature Edition

Hi :)

I've read that my computer (Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5 1470 Signature Edition) should have an already available place for an additional SSD, but I don't see one. It looks like this image on page 35 of the hardware manual . In another forum, a senior support specialist said the following:

I checked also on the similar Flex 5 1470 variants that came with just the m.2 pcie like 80XA0006US and show that there is already available HDD Bracket C 80X8 (PN 5B40N67466) to slide in the HDD.

I'm trying to understand what that means. I currently have an M.2 SSD 128 GB (I think it's called M.2).

If I want to add another SSD 128 GB for a total of 256 GB, Do I buy an SSD 128 GB HDD (no idea if that makes sense) and insert it into the HDD Bracket?

OR

Do I buy a M.2 SSD 256 GB and replace the existing one?

In other words, I want to upgrade my SSD to 256 GB. What's the best way?

Thanks,

Tom

Welcome to the Community Forums @theantidoak

Each machine has a different variant, so, I suggest that you need to share the complete machine type model / MTM (ex. 81C70000RK or 20UD000BUS) from the sticker usually located under the case. This would help find more details about your machine variant, while keeping the confidentiality of your serial number.

If you can't find any sticker under the device showing the machine type model / MTM, check this link as guide how to find it within Windows. Please do not include the machine serial number (S/N): https://support.lenovo.com/ph/en/videos/vid100751-how-to-locate-serial-number-and-machine-type-model-number-may-2020-update

According to the product specification sheet of Lenovo Flex 5 (14 inch) shows,

Storage
Some: HDD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm high
Some: M.2 SSD / PCIe 3.0 x 4

Certified reseller like Crucial offers a M.2 PCIe SSD and a 2.5 SATA SSD for this type of model.

We can further check if the ports are available on your systemboard.

Update us when convenient.

Regards.

Re:Extra SSD slot for Idea Flex 5-1470 Signature Edition

I think I found the answer:

My computer came with an M.2 SSD 128 GB.

There is an empty slot for a 2.5-inch SATA SSD/HD drive slot.

I didn't understand that those are two different types of SSD hardware. So I think if I buy a 2.5-inch SATA SSD, I'll be able to install it into the empty space.

Thanks for replying though!

Hi @theantidoak

That's good to know. I think you're on a good start now. I can just leave this thread here about a similar query with the same laptop model hoping other users of this laptop model may find it helpful.

Goodluck.
