Flex 2-15 windows 8.1 slow file copying

2014-11-08, 18:36 PM

Hello,

Do you happen to know an e-mail address of lenovo support?

I have a problem with slow file copying operations in windows 8.1.

When I try to copy large files (cca. 50 GB) the transfer rate is under 10 MB/s instead of above 60MB/s.

The laptop has 8GB RAM, 500 GB HDD with flash memory cache (8 GB I think) and windows 8.1 pro.

Do you have any advice?

Thank you!

There was a problem with the seagate HDD but the seatools tests still passed. I've replaced it.

This helped me too

Hi

I have a similar slowness issue - I haven't tried file copy as I want to keep within the 14 day "return to supplier untouched" agreement.   I have bought the Flex 2 as a present and was shocked how slow it was at boot up. I figured it is likely to be the hard disk since it is not doing a lot computing on boot up.  Was the HDD easy to replace?  I am thinking of a 240GB  SSD and taking the hit on the extra cost ( even for a cheaper SSD).

You will lose warranty if you replace it yourself!
For flex line of laptops, lenovo say the only parts a customer can replace are the power brick, the keyboard and the dvd drive.
Anything else will need to be replaced by a Lenovo authorized service.
They will probably replace the defective part with a similar one.

I think it is worth the risk . This is a refurbished machine ( not one I would use for work)  .  I undersatand from these forums that Samsun 840 Evo range is the way to go rather than say crucial MX.

there is a service manual on the support site.
there are a lot of screws you need to keep track and make sure don't drop them inside the laptop. It is designed to be open only by a technician, as all the parts will be exposed after you remove the case.
Only a slim 500 GB seagate hdd wrapped in some foil will fit in place. As I said it is designed for specific parts.

Hi

I have to admiit I am now a little nervous about removing all the screws. I downloaded the manual but that just really refers to CD ROM change.

The Samsung 840 EVo did arrive yesterday which I gather will fit and be accepted by the BIOS.  Are there any howtos / youtube videos on taking one of these things appart?

I'm note sure which manual you downloaded.  Page #40 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual explains how to remove the hard drive.  Here is that manual for your reference.....

Here is a Lenovo Training Video on the Flex 2 15 which will demonstrate the disassembly of your laptop......

Just in case you have the Flex 2 Pro 15 here is that model's video course.....

Thanks ..... Now that doesn't look so bad-  I don't have to remove the keyboard - just a lot of screws at the back.  The manual I seem to have downloaded wss the user manual .http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Manual/p35-manual-en-v2.0.pdf
