Flex 4 biometric reader issues

2017-03-23, 1:40 AM
I've been using my Flex 4 for over 3 months without any issues, but 2 days ago Windows Hello won't recognize my fingerprint through the biometric reader. My password still works, and I've resubmitted the fingerprint and additional prints, but they still aren't recognized. Any help would be great, thanks.

Hello Whodwhen

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.

(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)
1. Turn the unit off
2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter
3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds
4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter
5. Turn the unit on as normal

Also, try to download the Chipset driver for the unit from the support page.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Reboot, press F2 to enter BIOS setup, go to the security menu, and look in IO Port Access to ensure that fingerprint is not disabled there.

Next thing to do is take the palmrest off and check to make sure the ribbon cable going to the fingerprint reader is plugged in.  The hardware maintenance manual explains how to do that.  Or else send it back in for warranty service.

Update us how it goes.

Thanks for the help... both suggestions didn't resolve the issue unfortunately.

Booting into BIOS did not help, but once I pop off the bottom panel and check to see if the ribbon is plugged in I will let you know, thank you all for the help and suggestions.
