Flex 6-14arr resets after sleep mode , wifi adapter issues

2021-04-27, 4:00 AM

Hello,

My laptop recently has been unable to recover from a sleep state, instead loading a black screen which progresses nowhere and restarting itself. This results in a reboot with no previous state saved, all windows and programs closed. This is true whether I manually enter sleep, or it does so from lack of activity.

Based on other ~similar forum issues (e.g.: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-IdeaPad-1xx-3xx-5xx-7xx/Flex-6-14ARR-Sleep-mode-shutdown/td-p/4315872) I suspect it may have something to do with a Realtek audio or other driver? Which would align with another less frequent issue I've been experiencing where upon booting up, the network adapter (a Realtek driver) doesnt show any wifi networks, and only starts behaving normally after an arbitrary number of restarts.

Flex 6-14ARR Laptop (Lenovo) - Type 81HA.

Can provide much more info, help is much appreciated as this basically means I cant leave my laptop alone unplugged (it just dies if not allowed to sleep).

Hi amharr55,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Here's some steps you can try to remedy the issue:

Step 1. Turn off 'Fast Startup'

- Navigate to the windows icon in the bottom left, click it and start typing "Control Panel"
- While in Control Panel, navigate to the "Power Options" Icon / link.
- In the left column, click "Choose what closing the lid does"
- Click "Change Settings that are currently unavailable"
- Unmark "Turn on fast startup" (This does not affect Restarting the computer), but when it starts up again from sleep and/or hibernation.

- If the issue persists, continue below:

Step 2. Making sure the Mouse/touchpad is allowed to wake the computer.
- Right click the "Windows Icon" in the bottom left corner and select "Device Manager" from the list
- Navigate and drop down "Mice and other pointing Devices" on the list.
- Right click the HID-compliant mouse/touchpad and see if it has something called "Power Management" in the tab overview.
- If so, click it and tick "Allow this device to wake the computer"

- If the issue persists, continue below:

Step 3. Check USB Root Hubs and Generic USB hubs.
- Press Windows Key + X, select Device Manager
- In Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
- Right click and click properties on all USB Root Hubs and Generic USB hubs.
- Check Power Management, and make sure these devices are allowed to "Wake" the device.
- Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power"
- Hit "Apply" and exit and then "OK".

- If the issue persists, continue below:

Step 3.2. Do the same for the Wifi Adapter to fix the Wifi Issue:- Navigate to the "Networks Adapter" tab and drop it down.
- Right click the device and select "Properties"
- Un-check the box "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
- Apply and hit ok.

Step 4: Disable Automatic Hardware drivers update.
- Right click the Windows Icon, select the "Search" Function.
- Type "Control Panel" and select "Small icons" or "Large Icons" in the "View By" top right.
- Click the "System Icon"
- Navigate to "Advanced System Settings" -> "Hardware"
- Click "Device Installation Settings" and Select "No"** This will prevent Windows from interfering with the hardware drivers for our device in future Windows updates.

Step 5. Uninstall Display Device & Audio with drivers and reinstall:

- Press the Windows key + X and select "Device Manager"
- Expand "Display Adapters"
- Right click the AMD, NVIDIA and/or INTEL VGA devices and select "Uninstall"
- If prompted to uninstall drivers associated with the device, tick the box and continue.
- Expand Audio inputs and Outputs
- Expand Sound, Video and game Controllers
- Expand System Devices.
- Uninstall any Audio related device + drivers.
- Perform a restart of the laptop.

- If the issue persists, continue below:

Step 6. System Board / Audio / Display drivers:
Make sure you have the newest Chipset, Serial I.O and Management Engine Interface drivers for your device along with Audio and Display drivers.
You can find and install the newest drivers from the Lenovo Support Page
Just plot in the serial number of the device and hit enter, might have to press it twice, then head to Drivers & Software, select Manual Update, then select "Chipset", "Audio" & "Display & Video Graphics" section.

Hope this helps

Regards

Voithos

Voithos

So I was able to try all of your solutions, in the order you listed, and unfortunately the problem still persists. Computer goes to sleep just fine, and quickly, but then when it is woken up (I usually press a key on the keyboard), it goes to a black screen and eventually restarts.

Are there any other possible steps?

Hi @amharr55

Apologies for the delayed response. If the troubleshooting steps provided above made no difference or improvement on your machine, it would be good to get in touch with the technical team and let them know about the steps you've done in the reported case and for them to provide recommendation as well.

Regards.
