I reviewed your post and you're in the right direction. However, the only challenge that you have is the BIOS Whitelist (this means only tested WLAN cards are permitted to be used on the M.2 WLAN slot).

I did a quick search and found these two articles (3rd party links) with working eGPU (connected via Thunderbolt port).

https://lnv.gy/2ONJCQY

https://lnv.gy/2ONJDo0

If the eGPU cable https://lnv.gy/2ONJEs4 is recognized without any hitch, then you should be good to go, otherwise, I'm afraid this setup wouldn't work (unless you install a modified BIOS, which is currently not supported).

Well how should i say this, first...after everything is connected, i boot the laptop, graphic card and Power Supply turned on for less than 2 seconds then turned off... (1st sign of failure)  so switch on CPU switch on the  External Independent Video Card PCI-E and booted the laptop and they both stayed on... okay, (first sign of success) next i signed on, fire up device manager....everything looks normal...so basically the egpu didnt got detected.... :(...i ran every fix/ help i could get from the internet and nothing works, then i got really stressed and the one help or fix i think would work is Nando DIY egpu setup 1.35 ... i did bought his software, for $15, but i fail to pull through, bc i didnt want to brick or mess up my bios, and his process of modifying Bios is really complicating. so i returned the gpu and power to best buy. i really wanted to play GTA V on my pc without lag, so i went ahead and upgrade my ram 8 to 12 and hdd to ssd, and i got a little more fps on gta from 30 to 36....but it still stucks because i still have to play in windowed mode.

Hey there, Starbitz!

We're sorry if the setup that you wanted didn't work out. Due to the BIOS limitation, this kind of upgrade is not meant for your laptop. You may still try using the software that you wanted to purchase in flashing the BIOS, however, there is still a risk of messing it up the BIOS and that could cause a major problem. We wish you good luck and have a great day!

Lenovo IdeaPad 330-15ARR GPU change

2020-05-26, 17:38 PM

Hi,

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad 330-15ARR and Ryzen 5 2500U with Radeon Vega Graphics(Vega 8) and I would like to change it with Nvidia gtx 1060 mobile or Nvidia gtx 980m. I know that for that I should buy a new motherboard, but I found out that the place reserved for GPU is empty(in the top of the picture No. 2) so I just wanted to ask do I still need to buy a new motherboard, or I can just give it to a professional tehnician who can solder the GPU chip ( picture No. 1) on the motherboard, and if not what should I do?

Thanks for help in the future!

New motherboard. Is not just the GPU, it needs the Vram chips and hundreds of small SMDs. Personally, instead of swapping the motherboard, i just resell the system and buy another. Second hand if budget is tight
