IDEAPAD 330S 15IKB and Optane = not work

Hi!

I just bought Lenovo 330s and Intel Optane 16Gb and have a strange problem....

I tested 3 configuration:

 

ACHI mode + Optane = system starts and see 16 GB disk

RST without Optane = system starts

RST + Optane = NOT WORK. System spin HDD and switched off immideately. Then automatically switched on again, spin HDD and switched off.... it's repeat endless. The only way to start notebook again - switch off by long press button and physically remove Optane.

Optane an Ideapad firmware version is latest.

 

When a install optane, i am disconnect battery, of course.

 

This sutuation is very frustraiting... Thank for possible solution, but looks like firmware issue...

Hi Egraznov! Welcome to our forums community. Could you try the steps below:
1. Follow this: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht500216 to boot into BIOS
2. Go to the Configuration tab. arrow down to storage and press Enter
3. Arrow down to Intel (R) Rapid Storage Technology and press enter
4. Select Intel Optane and choose Disable and hit Enter.
5. After the process is complete, you should see Non- Raid Physical Disks: Press F10 to save and Exit
6. Reboot into Windows and update the Intel IRST Driver Package and BIOS to the latest level from Lenovo Support: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/300-series/330s-15ikb/downloads IRST Driver package 16.7.0.1009 or later: BIOS 27 or later

You may also need to download and install the latest version of the Intel Optane Management Software from the following link: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28400/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-User-Interface-and-Driver-for-Intel-7th-8th-Generation-Platforms
1. Perform the update and restar the machine.
2. Launch the Optane Management Software to Enable Optane.
3. Backup any needed data and select Erase all data on the Optane Module to continue.
4. After the process is complete Restart the System
5. After Restart select Launch the Optane Management Software to confirm its enabled. Comprehensive Software Support and Getting Started Assistance.

I'm just experiencing the same problem!

Even with latest driver and bios  lenovo supplied at this time of wrinting.

System won't boot even cannot entered into bios screen!!!

I'm suspecting uefi firmware version problem or incompatible hardware version of optane memory.

My optane memory is 16gb of early version which support pcie x2 only.

Does it matter to this symptom?

If the problem is due to uefi firmware version issue, how could I fix this?

I've attached bios screen shot showing uefi storage driver version.

Ofcourse, I've taken this shot after phyically removal of my optane memory!!!

Expecting fast response to this kind of problem.

Hello there:

I have a similar problem. I just got 330s. First, the windows did not see the optane drive. I made the necessary settings from the BIOS. Windows saw.
I did a BIOS update. I've updated Intel RST. I made all the adjustments. But the optane driver is seen as ssd in windows. I cannot enable the optane memory in the IRST program. There are messages in the attached photo. 

As you can see, I can't use the optane memory properly. I guess many people live this problem. But I didn't see the solution. Can Lenovo authorities find a solution to this problem? Otherwise, I will have to return the product. But I don't want to do this.

Hello 

 

choing what Egraznov and willaim_null already stated, it is not possible to enter Bios using any of the methods outlined in https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht500216 at all. Nothing works, the computer goes into an endless boot cycle. It is not possile to enter Bios in order to perform 2 onwards in your reply.

Unfortunately NO :( I think this issue occur only with  first revision of Optane. 

But this Optane module now  perfetly work in last revision of my intel NUC :)

Do you mean you got a new revision of Optane memory module? Or is it the same one but on a different motherboard?

Seems there is problem (Lenovo Firmware issue) only with old Optane 16GB revision (MEMPEK1W016GA01).
But it's perfectly works in latest Intel NUC (BOXNUC8I3BEH2).

So i didn't solve the problem, but found another solution for my incompatible Optane module!

It's the same module, but in another mitherboard.

Ah, after further reserach, I understand what you are saying. The first revision of the 16GB module had the product name MEMPEK1W016GAXT, while the later release has product name MEMPEK1J016GAL.

 

I still haven't received any confirmation from Lenovo service centre here about which revision is compatible with Lenovo Ideapad 330s 81F5 laptop, particularly whether the older revision (MEMPEK1W016GA) can also be installed.
