IdeaPad S540 Wifi problems

2019-09-04, 22:14 PM

So I have bought this laptop less than a week ago and I'm experiencing wifi problems.

Whenever I change my wifi to another network, it just loads for hours (and eventually never connects) and the only solution is to restart the laptop.

When I turn off wifi, I can't turn it on unless I restart the laptop.

Then when I click on 'airplane mode', I can't turn it off unless I again restart the laptop.

This is getting really annoying as I need to change my wifi sometimes and restarting takes too much time.

Also there is nothing wrong with my wifi. My previous laptops never had this problem and could easily change between different wifi networks.

Anyone with the same problem? Or someone with a solution?

Thanks in advance.

What is the model no of your s540 ?  (eg. s540-15~IWL ?)

What version of Windows 10 are you running?   v1903 ?  (Use 'winver' app to check)

Does Lenovo Vantage app report you have the latest drivers installed?

Go to Device Manager and under Network Adapters, identify what make/model of wireless card is fitted?

Is it perhaps an Intel or Realtek card?

There has been issues with Realtek cards in other Ideapads, though the symptoms are different.

(I don't work for Lenovo)

Hi, I also have this problem on my ideapad S540 (AMD version, Win10 1903)

If your S540 same as me is Realtek wifi card (RTL8822BE) just downgrade driver to 2023.71.1201 and disable driver update via Windows Update can get more stable wifi function for now (temporary solution)

Downgrading the driver worked a bit, but still had some issues with connections dropping.

Instead, I just replaced the wifi card (Realtek 8822BE) with an Intel AC 9260 card and now it is working like a charm!!

I have an S540 - AMD Version. Very surprised and happy that the intel card wasn't bios locked.

Hey how to find out that which Wifi card supports Lenovo S540? I have Intel model 14 inch but the Wifi card is Realtek 8822be and I want to replace it with a better intel wifi card. There are so many intel wifi cards and I don't know which one should I buy. Please help
