Ideapad 3 15-inch 81W4000AUS

2021-04-12, 3:28 AM

I'm getting the 81W4000AUS soon.

The specs say it has an NVME slot and a 1tb 5400 rpm 2.5" hard drive.
Can any m.2 SSD be put in the NVME slot, or does it have to be 512gb or less, as stated in this post: (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-IdeaPad-1xx-3xx-5xx-7xx-Edge-LaVie-Z-Flex-Notebooks/Does-the-Lenovo-IdeaPad-3-15-6-Ryzen-5-4500U-81W4000AUS-support-an-M-2-2280-SSD/m-p/5023326?page=1#5261885)?
I have a 1tb m.2 2280 1tb Western Digital SSD. Will it not work?

Also, can the 1tb 5400 rpm 2.5" hard drive be replaced with any 2.5" SSD? I have a 2tb 2.5" Mushkin SSD that I'm thinking of putting in it.
Also, what is the highest RAM speed? What's the largest capacity SODIMM I can put in the open unsoldered RAM slot?

Thank you.

If your system has a M.2 PCIe NVMe slot, you should not have any problem installing up to at least a 2GB SSD, so your 1TB drive should fit just fine.    Beyond 2TB many SSDs have RAM chips on both sides, and those could be too thick to fit properly in the M.2 slot.

As far as the 2.5" SATA drive, you can also install your 2.5" Mshkin SSD, but you may need a spacer to install it properly because most SSDs are 7mm thick, and some 2.5" SATA HDDs were 9.5mm, but you would have to check the model of HDD installed to determine if a spacer is needed.     Some SSD manufacturers like Crucial include the spacer with the SSD, so you might check in the box your Mushkin came in.

Cheers,

Thank you. I was asking specifically about the size of NVME/SATA M.2 drives for this model because the Senior Support Specialist (Spidey101) who replied to the other thread I linked above said:

Your systemboard (PN 5B20S44306) have the m.2 slot (yellow box on image) for a  M.2 PCIe 2242 SSD up to 512G (OEM offering).
