Ideapad 330-15arr upgrade path (ssd/M.2)

2018-10-05, 19:46 PM

So recently I bought a Ideapad with ryzen 5 2500u and I want to ask if is an upgrade path to an ssd, but I still want to keep the HDD that it came with originaly. Is there any M.2 slot or that is only available in the Ideapad 330s? The chassis has a slot for a DVD reader but it isn´t there, so a ssd is easy to plug in.

Hi tucano75,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Checking with the hardware manual for storage specification (page 27) shows :

2.5-inch, 7.0 mm SATA II/SATA III, 500 GB / 1 TB / 2 TB / 128 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD (HDD build in ODD) (Lenovo ideapad 330-15ARR/Lenovo ideapad 330-15ARR Touch)

Unlike the Ideapad 330s, this variant do not offer m.2 PCie 2280 SSD slot but instead those that offer SSD + HDD are both SATA. The HDD itself is build it on the ODD tray in some 330 15ARR . So it may be possible to perhaps replace the ODD with a HDD caddy (as example) but such is non OEM tested so it can be an option.

We cannot guarantee 100% functionality so always check on return options.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

I saw a dissassembly video which shows in the place of the disc drive is a caddy for 2.5 already installed by lenovo, the screws match the holes that put the ssd/hdd in place, the only thing missing is the sata cable connecting the ssd/hdd to the motherboard.

Hello! Did you end up trying to upgrade the storage disk? I'm considering buying this very model but it 100% depends on the upgradeability of the storage.

Thank you in advance and have a good day!

I didn't upgrade the storage and I don't have the laptop anymore, but I can tell you that for upgrades don't think about a m.2 ssd because the motherboard doen't have a slot for it only has sata connections for 2.5'' ssd or hdd.

IMPORTANT!
Do more research before buying this laptop the specs look cool and is very inexpensive for the performance but lenovo support for this configuration is really trash the cpu thermal throttles and doesn't compare to other laptops with the same configuration, so be prepared if you buy this one.

Hey, thanks a lot for the fast answer, very much appreciated, if it has heating issues then I sure won't be buying it :)
