Make sure you installed ubuntu in legacy bios mode, i have experienced this problem also when i installed it on uefi mode, but the screen wakes up after about 5-10 minutes and sound and wifi also stops working after suspend on ubuntu 18.04 but sound problem was fixed in 18.04.1 and maybe in 18.10.

No need to install in legacy mode. EFI boot is preferred.

As for my current config

  • Xubuntu 18.04.1
  • Kernel 4.20
  • Oibaf's ppa
  • Last firmware

No issues going/returning from/to suspended mode.

The stapm is also bottlenecking performancde in ubuntu also but with one difference temperature is around 60 C when this happens so how can i load custom dsdt which may be permanent fix. Also dis the new bios update fixed the stapm issue?

I have a lenovo ip 330s-15arr and i tried things with clover to change lines in dsdt.aml  and nothing worked and it's kind of sad because to other people that thing worked. well this laptop is more complicated than the others. we have to use something different to change the power of our laptops.

Hi guys,

I am planning to buy a laptop for CAD applications such as solidworks, CATIA, ANSYS, MATLAB.

I know that IdeaPad 330 15-IKB would be more preferable than 330 15arr but considering the price as I have low budget, would IdeaPad 330 15arr be more than enough for this purpose or I should increase the budget ?

Sorry to ask this question here but I wanted the answer from the person who has this laptop.

Thanks in advance...

Driver support from either amd or lenovo is poor (no support from amd though). Hardware is good though in 330-15arr. Build quality is worst in all lenovo products.

So, If you are planning to use linux then opensource drivers are better than proprietary drivers (getting more fps in games, CS GO run at 100+ fps but with better drivers it may give 150+ fps, other games -- not available on Linux -- do not use oibaf drivers they degrade performance in my 330-15arr).

Geekbench show better score (little less than 5000 in single and about 13000 in multicore, however in windows score is less than even 9000 sometimes even reaches as low as 7000 in multicore) and cinebench (in wine) runs better and give cpu score of 598cb (after doing tweaks to dsdt cinebench score increased to 650cb) but I can't post screenshot due to buggy wine emulator.

Games run well under Linux.

Conclusion: if you are planning to use linux then going with 330-15arr is recommended and if you want windows you should never buy any 'ryzen laptop from lenovo'. It is your preference for OS, chose what you want. Also you can get acer aspire (ryzen 5) for about 500 bucks on sale and it works well with windows. You will regret like many of us after buying Lenovo product be it Intel or AMD.

Also: no WiFi modules for rtl8821ce (WiFi card in some Lenovo laptops) but there is an easy fix using dkms -- google it

microphonene don't work under linux anymore after updating to 4.20 kernel.

AMD-VI (virtualization) will throw errors on boot but works good.

These are only bugs in Ubuntu 18.04.1 on kernel 4.20.
