Ideapad 330S - static noise on screen after power button is pushed to restart.

2019-02-02, 17:52 PM

I'm having an issue that I hope doesn't get worse. When I open my laptop and push the power button the laptop sometimes boots to a screen of static noise. If I push the power button to restrart again, it opens to Windows just fine,

I haven't been able to isolate the exact circumstances when this occurs. It seems to be random and occcur when the computer comes out of sleep.

Any ideas?

Hi TimNiet! Welcome to our forums community. Would you be able to determine if the sound is coming from the left or right side of the laptop? Try running the hardware scan of the Lenovo Vantage app to check for hardware failure of the laptop. If the app is missing, you can get it here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/lenovo-vantage/9wzdncrfj4mv?activetab=pivot:overviewtab. Update us how it goes.

Sorry, I guess I explained it wrong. The static noise is not from the speakers. It is how the display (screen) looks when I bring it out of sleep or hibernate mode. I have to reboot to resolve the problem. This occurs infrequently but it's enough to worry that it will happen more frequently in the future.

Got it! Does the issue happen when the charger is plugged in or even on battery mode? If you could send us a video, we would appreciate it, so we can have a better view and we'll be able to hear the noise better.

Look, I'm having the same problem. There's no sound or anything, but usually when booting up (after putting in the password oddly enough) the screen just goes to static. My screen looks like the attached photo. Every now and again I'll disable the driver for the AMD radeon graphics, or update it, or re-enable it, but the problem always comes back up. I literally bought this computer like two months ago and have all my work on it. I would hope there's a legitimate fix for this.

Once again the static noise isn't audible. it is visual on the screen

Exact same issue here, did you ever get a response or fix it?

Typical.

Support forums like these are useless, you can see by the generic suggestions and barely thought out responses. E.g. "we'll be able to hear the noise better."

I mean that shows how much they read or care about the previous reply.

I have the same problem with my Ideapad 330S bought 6 months ago. Makes no difference if it is on charger or not. It happens about 30% of starting attempts.Lenovo service i Ireland suggested a fix for "static discharge" and "one key recovery". I have only tried the first one without success and not tried the second yet because it will delete all my data.
