Ideapad 710S: Unable to start up

2019-09-22, 16:22 PM

Greetings!

The Lenovo logo did not appear as per normal but a black screen did. After a minute or so, the Window Boot Manager appeared as shown in the attached picture. But it did not allowed me to enter or exit, clicking on the Esc/Enter button causes the screen to blank out for a second before the same Window Boot Manager pops up.

I tried googling for solutions and tried entering the BIOS or something, it states that my hard disk is Not Installed.

Hence, I removed the hard disk and placed it back in and tried to turn on the computer but to no avail.

I would love to at least recover my data. Any advice on what I should do?

Thanks in advance!

Try a USB to SATA adapter to another PC to get back some data. But it looks very much like your hard disk died.

Can you confirm the exact model number?  eg.710s-13isk

What type of storage device is fitted?   Is it a M2 SSD or an actual 2.5" hard drive?  (Lenovo Platform specs document and youtube videos suggests only M2 SSD cards were fitted and there is no space for 2.5" SATA drive in 710s-13)

If BIOS setup is definitely reporting no hard disk, then I'm afraid it can only mean two possibilities:

1. Storage device has suffered catastrophic failure.  Data recovery would be impossible if SSD has died.

2. Motherboard has partially failed and cannot correctly detect the internal storage device (Less likely in my experience).

You can buy adapter cables for  2.5" SATA hard drives for connecting to USB3 port of another working Windows, linux or mac computer as suggested by Benji96.

(I don't work for Lenovo)

Will give it a try! Would it be possible to use any data recovery software afterwards?

If so, any free software to recommend?

Thanks

I'm currently out right now, so I'm unsure the exact model but its a M2 SSD.

I'll try it soon and update!

Thanks!
