I have the same problem.

No fix really works.

Please Lenovo, fix it! Otherwise I'll never buy a laptop from you again

Has anyone here had luck with Notebook Fan Control?
Is there a way to find out the Write and Read Registers for the 720s?

Can anyone from Lenovo please comment?

Unfortunatly for Lenovo, as there is no solution for this issue, next week I will get back this laptop and I already bought MSI GF 63.

I am just curious, does this affect the 13 inch versions with UHD graphics? I just got mine yesterday. The fan spun up when doing windows update to 1803 (reasonable cos temps were hitting the 70s). But other than that on normal web surfing, on battery at least, it is pretty much quiet.

Re: Ideapad 720S-14IKB fan noise/cycling

2018-09-12, 4:15 AM

I had this laptop before with 3 main problems: low CPU performance, loud fan noise and touchpad lags.  I found none of these to be solvable even with all the support Lenovo gave.  This includes, 2 times Windows reinstallation, drivers update/ or even disable drivers and let Windows find a suitable ones, mainboard replacement, touchpad replacement, thermal grease upgrade and all troubleshooting from Lenovo website and supports.  Therefore I finally gave up troubleshooting and returned the laptop after 8 months of use and got full refund.  I had 3-year on-site warranty which made this a little easier to return.

So what I did is that I use non-solvable touchpad lag problem to return the device even though it was long pass return period, which in my country, is 7 days.  So if you have similar problem, you might be able to return it too.  These are the main 2 links I used in my email to confirm the issue as this issue randomly happens.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Lenovo/comments/7y27cb/720s15ikb_inconsistent_touchpad_speed/

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-IdeaPad-1xx-3xx-5xx-7xx/Ideapad-720S-15IKB-touchpad-delay-and-nonresponsive-bug/td-p/3960578

The problem is that the touchpad randomly and unsequencely delay for 0.1-2 seconds and sometimes it's terrible to use when you want to click on save button, but you hit exit button due to the delay.

The whole process took me 1.5months for the process to return my unit, starting from software reinstallation then hardware replacement(on-site), and finally I sent the unit to Lenovo to test and they found the issue and gave no solution.  So I finally wrote a letter to ask for another replacement unit that is not the same model(this model has a lot of problems),  but they asked the reseller to let me return the device instead.  So if you have touchpad lag problem as well as any another problem, you may be able to return it using touchpad lag problem.

#Edit: I returned the device in Thailand where I bought it

13 in has a lower pitch, but for some reason the fans would always be running (even on idle and after updating BIOS) which basically dropped the battery life by half.  Otherwise it was a great device and the fans weren't abnormal for an ultrabook under load, but constnat idle fan noise and the ensuing loss of battery life kind of killed it.

Hi KQvestion!

Have you tried the steps recommended by other user that worked for them?

Go to Control Panel> Search for Power Option> Additional Power Settings> Change plan settings> Change advanced power settings> Processor power management> Maximum processor state> By default that is set to 100%
Please set it to 98%

Regarding the power performance, you can maximize the battery life by following the tips in this link http://blog.lenovo.com/en/blog/6-easy-ways-to-extend-your-laptops-battery-life

Thanks.
