Re: Ideapad 720S-14IKB fan noise/cycling

I'm not sure...my BIOS version is:

6LCN22WWV1.08 (I used Lenovo Vantage to update the BIOS).

Are you on V1.08 too? If so, there is an option for the thermal framework in BIOS that you need enable before you can change the setting in Windows.

I also dont have the option in my and I have the same version of the BIOS. Can you guys maybe take a picture and show us where we are supposed to find this?
I attached pictures of my BIOS menu. I have the option of changing it in Windows but I dont feel like it is doing something. Is there a way to check whether it's working?

here's what my BIOS looks like: https://imgur.com/a/KG39LI3

Oh and thank you at Lenovo for the great support! I spent over a thousand Euro on a Notebook and the support is basically nonexistent (sorry, had to vent here)

Did you change the advanced power settings too (as per my earlier post)? Enabling DPTF in BIOS on its own is not enough.

I still get fan noise when doing intensive tasks or during startup/login for a few seconds. But general use, it is absolutely quiet.

This is the last laptop from Lenovo in our company. Now we are trying to return laptops and refund money for all 720S laptops.

My battery drained today after 2,5 hours working with text editor. I think the reason is noisy fan, what kill battery. My colleague's laptop fan not even noisy, but whistling all time. The third one fan speed constantly jumping and it very, VERY annoying.

Re: Ideapad 720S-14IKB fan noise/cycling

I decided to do a fresh install of Windows (using this Microsoft tool) as my previous solution was not as effective after a recent MS Windows update and Nvidia update (maybe a coincidence).

After the fresh install, I did NOT do any tweaks/workarounds and the laptop is quiet except on high loads. I had to go through the fresh install and then do the various updates (and fan was noisy as hell during the process) but after that finished, all is good/quiet.

If I do high load tasks now, the fan does come on and is noisy but fan does not always go to full speed (previously it seemed to be either off; or fully on and noisy)  and generally goes quiet soon after the task is complete.

The fingerprint scanner was not recognised automatically by Windows but I used the driver in the Lenovo partition (D:/ drive on my laptop) and that works too now. No other issues noted as yet.

This option may not be for everyone as you may lose data and have to set up all your apps again. Also, only been 24hrs since I have done this so can't comment on long term.
