Re: Ideapad 720S-14IKB fan noise/cycling

Because it just doesn't work. It's somem fake post to cool down the mood here,

We all know that this problem will never be solved.

If it had been , long time ago  lenovo would have  released the fix .

Sorry , but that is the true , the time will prove it.

I bought new my laptop yesterday. (Ideapad 720S-14IKB, i5 8th Gen.) I am experiencing a terribly loud fan noise from time to time when I am open. The BIOS update did not work. Any solution Lenovo?

Just took delivery of this today (i5 81BD model) and wish I'd have seen this forum before buying! I've now seen lot's of forums with owners having the same issues. I've tried a few of the suggestions for power settings and even did a complete re-install of windows but still any time the CPU gets to high 40s/low 50s the fans come on. It's crazy that Lenovo won't let you adjust this (even if they put caveats about worse battery performance).

Really don't know whether to wait this one out or return the laptop.

Hi to everybody again! I'v contacted today lenovo support via online chat in Poland, described the issue and they told me to make a record and send it to polish local suport team.  I make a video and audio record.  Also I sent them our forum page. In atachment there is a copy of my chating but in Polish.

Re: Ideapad 720S-14IKB fan noise/cycling

Hi guys,

I bought my Ideapad 720S yesterday and noticed the fan noise right away - and it was bothering me.

I do like everything else with this piece - but the noise was really a dealbraker and I was thinking about returning it today.

Then I stumbled across this thread, was really disappointed by the missing replies by Lenovo (still am, although it's fixed)- losing hope on a quick solution.

But!

I updated all the drivers (graphics, Intel etc., including march BIOS update) through the Lenovo homepage, removed all the pre-installed Lenovo apps (and other bloatware installed by Windows) and updated Windows to build 1803.

Only using Windows Defender - needless to say: first thing I did was removing McAfee.

This morning when I was booting the PC up it was silent like a grave.

Not sure what made the noise fan stop spinning around like crazy, but something did for sure.

Now - one hour later, the computer is still silent like a ninja! - like it's supposed to be!

I haven't changed anything in the register or other fixes in this thread.

Tried finding the quiet mode in the BIOS startup - couldn't find it (really Lenovo?!)

It's seems like a fantastic computer (haven't tried it much, since I used my whole evening stopping the fan) and I can't tell you how relieved I am about this - hope the it stays this way!

Best regards.

It doesn't work. It was the first things I did to solve the problem . Wait for standard windows updating proccess, You will see how 25 % occupancy  of procesor will run  the funs to very high lever. If You still have an oportunity to send it back , just do it . Otherwise You will regret .

Hi,

I tried stressing the computer a bit, since it wasn't making any noises at all at all when browsing and stuff.

When downloading Steam and installing Cities Skylines the CPU load went to approx. 30% - fan was still quite, had to hold it up to my ear to hear it - really running evenly though, nothing compared to yesterday.

When starting Cities Skylines on 1920x1080 the fan started on full throttle for 2-3 seconds, than calmed a bit down and now it's running evenly on the same level. Yeah - it's a bit loud, but my Playstation Pro makes fan noises, my MacBook Pro 2015 with Iris Graphics made a lot of fan noises when playing Cities Skylines- much more than this one is (both in macOS and Windows 10 installed on MacBook).

The CPU (i5-8250U) level when having the game and Steam running in the background, running Chrome to write this is at 30%, but the GPU (Nvidia GeForce MX150) is at 90% percent, so I guess it has to cool. The fan does run evenly though.

When I quit the game, took the fan a couple if seconds to cool down in even steps, not the up and down crazy thing I experienced yesterday.

Was running a couple of Yotube videos full screen at 2160p (not sure if it makes sense, screen is Full HD anyway), CPU load at 10-15% and Intel UHD 620 at 25-30%.

There was some cooling going on, but again I had to hold it up to confirm the noise.

I am not in any way defending Lenovo, since from what I can see here, they really have to step up their game when it comes to customer service and communication.

Also not saying your problem isn't real, but wanted to share what I did in order to fix the issue (which was so annoying) and maybe help someone else.

I guess I'm just lucky.

Edit:

Anyway, I have 50 days to return it, so I'll try it a little bit.

Couldn't find any products this good for the same price, since I got it for 800 euros.

Best regards.
