Ideapad S145 no sound device found on HDMI output

2019-11-10, 16:51 PM

Hello dear users,
I have Lenovo Ideapad S145 with i3-8145CPU with intel integrated only video card which has problems with HDMI sound.
When I connect my TV (Philips 7502) via HDMI cable the picture is fine, but the sound does not come to TV.
I tried the following based on my knowledge and threads that I read in this topic:
1) I tried with new cable - result is the same. With my old notebook everything is fine.
2) I tried switching BIOS mode from Legacy to UEFI but there was no result.

3) Check for disabled devices in Sounds settings of Windows 10 - Only internal speakers are there.
4) I tried to reinstall video and sound driver from Lenovo website, but that didn`t help as well.

Any other suggestions how I can fix this one ? Seems like it is software issue but how to fix it.

Thanks

Hi Gesh,

Welcome to Community Forums!

With regards to the sound issue, are you getting audio on built-in speakers or headphones?

Do you get sound with the HDMI cable before?

You might find this article helpful on how to fix sound issue with Windows 10 : https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht501860#1

You can also check for the updated Audio driver on the Lenovo support website: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-s-series-netbooks/s145-14api/downloads/driver-list/component?name=Audio

Let us know if everything works.

Regards,

Malvin

Hello,

Thank you for welcoming.

Yep, there is sound from integrated speakers.

I tried following the thread in forum - it does not work.
I also tried with downloading and installing this audio driver - still without success.

Maybe the problem is related to video driver ? I read somewhere that it also could be the problem.

Hi  ,

Thank you for replying.

Is HDMI showing under Playback devices?

Try these steps:

  • Right click on the speaker icon on the lower right of the screen
  • Click on Playback devices
  • Right-click the empty space and make sure that you check both Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices.
  • Check if you see HDMI on the list and enable it.

You can also try to disable Hyper-V feature:

  • Press Windows Key + S and type windows features. Now choose Turn Windows features on or off
  • Windows Features window will now appear. Look for Hyper-V on the list and disable it. Once you disable this feature, click OK to save changes
  • Restart your PC to apply the changes

Let us know if these steps work.

Regards,

Malvin

Hello again,

Sadly but HDMI is not showing under list of devices ( all updates were checked even before).

Hyper-V feature was also disabled before.

I am not sure what else I can check in order to make this work (wondering)

Thank you for helping me.

Hi  ,

Since you already tried using a different HDMI cable, and still no result.

You can try resetting BIOS to default :

  • Access BIOS (Press Novo Button )
  • Go EXIT tab and select load optimal defaults or press F9
  • Press F10 to save and exit
  • Reboot

After BIOS reset, you can check again if HDMI shows in Playback devices.

Let us know if this works.

Regards

Re: Ideapad S145 no sound device found on HDMI output

Hi again,

After I load default settings, windows can not boot anymore.

After I switch back from BIOS EUFI mode to legacy mode - notebook boots correctly.

I guess I need to switch to EUFI, then to format the SSD fully and install windows again in order uefi mode to work properly, am I right?

Regards, Georgi

Hi Gesh,

Thanks for your reply.

Since you already tried to reset BIOS to default, and Windows did not boot.

You can switch back BIOS to Legacy mode.

That's another option that you can try. It's also possible that it has something to do with the OS.

Reinstalling Windows would be the best option.

Let us know if everything goes well.

Thank you for you support Malvin,

I think I will try it but a bit later while new relaease of Windows appears.

I will write do when I do it and if it will resolve the problem.

See you, thanks

hi Gesh,

This problem may be caused by the audio driver, I suggest you uninstall the audio driver and graphics driver, and then, update to the latest driver through Lenovo vantage after reboot. (The graphics  driver is includes the graphics  audio driver).
