Installing a SATA3 M.2 SSD into 320S-14IKB (Type 81BN)

2021-04-21, 7:28 AM

I installed a 1TB Samsung 860EVO SATA m.2 into my laptop. It doesn't show up in BIOS or Windows.

What am I doing wrong here? Is the m.2 slot for NVME specifically?

my machine type is 81BN000JSB.

Hi Kankg81,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The 320S-14IKB (Type 81BN) can come in these storage configurations(support):

Some: SSD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm high
Some: HDD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm high
Some: M.2 SSD / PCIe 3.0 x 4, 32Gb/s

So it should be support both. Try disabling Secure boot in the BIOS, as this sometimes prevents new hardware from being detected as a security feature. If that does not help recognize the device, then if possible, try setting Boot mode to Legacy and see if the device shows up.

Regards

Voithos

Thank you,

I managed to get on live chat with a Lenovo agent. They told me that the m.2 slot in my laptop actually only supports NVME and not SATA.

So I should get a NVME SSD if I wanted to use that slot.
