Keyboard keeps disconnecting

I connect my laptop to a usb docking station at work.  This allows me to have a larger screen, a desktop keyboard and mouse.  Frequently after disconnecting the hub the keyboard on my laptop will no longer work at all.  It throws a code 10 in the device manager.  Restarting nor reinstalling the keyboard does not fix the problem.  Every time I have to reset the computer to return function to the keyboard.  I have tried many different ways of disconnect from the hub, but it keeps happening.

It might help to know which computer you have as well as the make and model of the docking station and OS version. You might also list the things you've already tried in detail so forum members aren't wasting time suggesting things you've already attempted.

You might detail the things you've tried so we don't suggest things you've already attempted. For example, what happens if you shut the Flex all the way down, disconnect from the hub, then power it up? I've no way to know if you've already tried that. Listing your attempts and the results helps us figure out what might be wrong. :)

I have tried disconnecting it when the computer is running normal, after shutting down all the apps, after closing the laptop, and after shutting down and restarting.  In all those circumstances it will randomly cease to function at some point.  Usually within 4-5 disconnects.  Simply restarting the computer, reinstalling the keyboard, disabling/reenabling the keyboard... all have not worked.  Resetting is the only thing I am successful with, but again it will code 10 again at some point.  Again, though, only after disconnecting from the hub, and it happens immediately.

If I understand, correctly, it doesn't fail with every disconnect, just now and then. Of the things you list, you don't mention shutting the computer entirely down, disconnecting, then starting the computer. What happens if you do that?

 

I hate to keep asking the same questions, but what OS and version is your Flex running?

 

Also, has this been happening since you got the dock,  or did it start at some particular point?

 

First thing to do is update the BIOS and all the drivers on your Flex. Especially any USB hub or chipset drivers.

You are correct.  It is random.  I have tried shutting all the way down and disconnecting, but randomly when I start back up it will not work, after disconnecting the hub of course.  I have not update the BIOS.  I will do that now.  The OS is Windows 10.

I have 1909.  Updating the Bios worked!  I updated and once it restarted (which I have done 1, 000 before), the keyboard began to function again.
