You are right! But I fixed it by removing BIOS battery CR2032 for half an hour. Works well now!

how does this fix the issue when the faulty bios firmware from the update is still there.  CMOS reset doesn't revert bios firmware version?

CMOS reset fixed this BIOS issue. Now it is working, and BIOS version is up-to-date

I think this error appears somehow during BIOS update process

I see that these posts are several months old. I just got my ideapad 330s brand new as a gift and I am having this problem. Why should I have to void my warranty to have a working laptop. Lenovo your products suck. I will never buy anything you make. Ever. I wanted a laptop to use with linux and to use with virtual machines. Nothing I want to do on this crappy laptop works. Your company sucks.

You know that the choice of updating the BIOS is in your hands, right? The person who gifted you this laptop a) apparently has too much money to just randomly throw away and also didn't look up your needs properly, or you probably didn't even manage to tell them what exactly you needed the laptop for and b) is not to blame for you not educating yourself properly. It is common knowledge that Lenovos BIOS updates commonly cause trouble. Oh, by the way, opening up the device and pulling a plug usually doesn't void the warranty anywhere as just opening it up in the case of a screwed-on bottom plate does not damage the device and doesn't involve modifying any of the built-in components. This is mostly the only thing that voids the warranty.

Also, you should really ease down on your tone. If you continue to post such aggressive, wrong statements you may end up getting sued by Lenovo for defamation, just saying.

They even have a specific list for devices certified for use with Linux, why didn't either the buyer/gifter and/or you bother looking this list up or even looking of Google for one minute before buying it? This is just your fault, and nobody elses. Nobody who buys a Windows notebook expects it to work with Linux besides very few people for specialised uses. And these commonly buy the rather enterprise-oriented ThinkPad devices. 90% of the notebooks listed are ThinkPads and the rest are a few older devices.

https://support.lenovo.com/de/de/solutions/pd031426

This is the list, as you see, no IdeaPad is listed.

Same here with 7WCN36WW , cannot change BIOS settings now and this is annoying since Secure Boot is on and this block boorting from an USB Recovery Media !

I have made the BIOS upgrade to 7WCN36WW.exe version an I was having the same problem which i was lucky to solve it in this way :

You can download older BIOS versions 7WCN28WW

from here :

https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/7wcn28ww.exe

Just flash it. Will solve the problem. I do not have any problem flashing an older version of bios, no warnings, no blockers.

Good luck.

p.s. I think you can download any older version of BIOS from that adddress, just replace the file name with a valid version, i.e. "7wcn30ww.exe", but I do recommend "7wcn28ww.exe" version which solve the problem.

Alternative link if the original link will dissappear : "https://drive.google.com/open?id=1HrLXnmWUvcekZGTehOLUm5I41LBvHW97"

The problem is that you need BIOS Flashback enabled, and it is not enabled by default. That is why a lot of people here encounter problems, because they cannot downgrade due to this issue. You most likely enabled it at one point.

Maybe you are right, but i don't remember to enabled flashback option from BIOS in the past, so it worth to give it a try.
