Lenovo 720s 15ikb 1050ti Gpu "Thermal Throttling" at 60 degrees

2019-11-07, 16:44 PM

the 1050ti in my laptop drops from 1700mhz down to 1152mhz due to "thermal throttling"

gpu-z says the tempurature limit is around 85 degrees, but after 1 minute of gaming it drops this limit to around 60 and drops the clock speed. This is an unreasonable limit. Under load the CPU sits at around 75 degrees and the GPU sits around 70.

Bios, windows and nvidea drivers are up to date. I've used DDU to get a clean install of the graphics drivers and use no overclocking software and the issue persists.

I believe this is a bios issue as tempuratue limits should be controlled by bios and am looking at rolling back to an earlier version.

Any other ideas?

If you set the voltage on your GPU through MSI Afterburner, you can prevent the throttling! There's YouTube vids on how to do it, it's pretty simple. For reference, my voltage curve is a straight line at about 1680mhz and it pretty much stays there the entire time, rarely goes above 75 degrees.
