Corrupted BIOS update. It's happened to many people recently. I fixed mine, but it wasn't easy. I suggest sending it in for repair under warranty.

I'm having the same issue now after having a series of other issues with this laptop and I'm just beyond frustrated at this point. The keyboard would stop working sporadically (backlight wouldn't come on and all keys were non responsive) but it would at least boot up so I could use the on screen keyboard. Now when I boot up the screen stays off and the escape and caps lock button light up. But I can't boot into safe mode, or do anything else for that matter.

Would you share with us how did you fix it? The prospect of sending laptop for a couple of months is not great.

Agree with this. for some reason the backlight was turned down to ZERO after an update. Simple but YES this is a thing! Check the brightness settings (or use a bright light on the screen to see if you can see an image if the backlight is out or turned down)

I bought my Lenovo Flex 5 just 4 months back and it has started showing black screen right after the Lenovo splash screen. My system when shutdown for more than 3-4 hours does not turn on, the power button and the backlight remains on, the fan kicks in but no display right after the Lenovo splash screen. I have to keep the power button pressed for long to force shut the system and after that when turned on the system runs fine but the next morning the same story repeats. I have tried resetting windows, updated windows, tried system recovery, updated bios, installing and uninstalling display drivers but nothing seems to work. Lenovo premier care support never gets connected, tried many times but could not reach any support executive.

I've had the same black screen issue too.

 

A newly bought Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5 for 2 weeks and started having this issue about 1 week after purchase. Tried all methods (power drain, BOIS and reinstalling MS)

 

Seems like the driver fix works fine but it's now unresponsive to an external monitor, not sure why a newly bought Lenovo laptop would have so many issues for such a small problems... Spent 2 whole days doing this and contacting various support team.

 

Absolutely not going to recommend this crap to anyone but for those who have already bought it, try the driver fix by selecting the Microsoft Basic Display Adapater.
