Lenovo Ideapad 110 Weird Buzzing Noise

2018-05-16, 18:56 PM

Hello!

For this last Christmas (2017), I received a Lenovo Ideapad 110 from my mother. The computer was good.. it took a little while for me to make the switch from Windows 8 to Windows 10, but, all-in-all, I did not really have any issues with it at first. I tried to activate the warranty only to find out that the warranty had already been activated almost A YEAR PRIOR to purchase for some reason... this laptop was purchased from Amazon and I suspect that it may have been previously used.

Anyway, after a while of using it, the laptop would occasionally freeze for a split second and then proceed to do one of two things:

1) Make a loud buzzing noise, similar to something you would hear before a PC crashed - except the PC wouldn't crash, just consistently play this obnoxiously loud, glitchy buzzing sound. I don't really know how to explain it. If you've ever had a computer that would freeze regularly, you would probably know the sound I'm talking about.. just a loud, glitchy buzz.

2) Make the video/media I'm playing go in sort of slow motion. Like, almost like the speed was reduced to .05x. I know this sounds weird, but I'm not sure how else to explain it. Everything would become choppy and slow, almost like I'm watching something frame-by-frame.

Neither of these things would stop until I restarted the computer. It used to happen sporadically, maybe once or twice per week but as of recently, it's been happening more and more often and I don't know what I can do to fix it. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you so much.

Hello Filaceous

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

In regards to the warranty, the base warranty doesn`t start at the time of purchase, it start at the time the unit was manufactured, you have to register the unit in order to update the warranty.

It is of course possible that it is a refurbished model, you would have to check at the place it was purchased and confirm with them.

The loud buzzing is possible that the hard drive is having problems and starting to fail.

I would recommend running an LSC scan, see if this is able to find anything for you at all:

1. Please click on the following link
2. Under the section ‘Download’ select the relevant Hyperlink dependant on whether your Lenovo is running Windows 7/8/8.1 32 bit or 64 bit.(Will work on Win10)
3. When prompted, select save and browse to a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded files.
4. Navigate to the folder where you saved the installation file, lscsetup_x86_26001.exe.
5. Double-click the installation file icon to start the installation.
6. Follow the onscreen instructions via the installation wizard that will install Lenovo Solution Centre on your system.
7. Once installed you will have a ‘Lenovo Solution Centre’ icon on your desktop please click to open this.
8. Once solution center is opened please select ‘Checkup’ then ‘Hardware Scan’ and ‘Full Scan’
9. This will take up to 20 minutes, see if this can find any errors.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.
