Lenovo L340 "Always On USB" option missing

2021-03-23, 12:58 PM

Hi there,

So - I recently bought a Lenovo L340-15IRH gaming laptop (4th March 2021).

Now - it turns out that the USB devices attached to the laptop stay turned on after I've shut down the laptop for the day.

After some googling - I found out that there should be an option in my BIOS to fix this.

In the "Configuration" section of the BIOS - there should be a "Always On USB" menu option.

I can't find this menu option in the laptop's BIOS.

The laptop has the latest version of the BIOS - BGCN33WW

(this was released on 15 Dec 2020).

So now - there's the latest of everything installed on the laptop.

Latest windows 10, latest "Lenovo Vantage", and "Lenovo Vantage" tells me that it installed the latest BIOS and the latest drivers on the machine.

Basically - the software is up-to-date, but the menu option "Always On USB" is still missing from the BIOS.

Can anyone help me turn off the "Always On USB" feature?

Hello David Mawer,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Try to check first if the current BIOS version of the machine matches the one recommended on the support site. Enter your machine serial number, go to Drivers and Software tab, click on Manual Update. Check and compare the versions.

You may also check if you can disable the Always on USB from Lenovo Vantage app. Try to uninstall the app, then reinstall from the Microsoft store.

In addition, please share the machine type model / MTM (ex. 81C70000RK) from the sticker as it would help us detail more about your machine variant.

Update us how it goes.

Regards.

Dear Dex_Lenovo,

So - I've checked the BIOS, and it's the latest one for my machine (version BGCN33WW).

Had a look at the sticker for the Machine type model; looks like the MTM is: 81LK00FTSAIC

The sticker also has some other numbers too. It looks like this: -

------------------------------------
              81LK00FTSAIC
------------------------------------
            WORMD00001044
WARRANTY VOID IF REMOVED
                  (barcode)
           WO0009690RSAS
------------------------------------

Sincerely,
David Mawer

Hey Dex_Lenovo,

I forgot to tell you - Also installed the latest Lenovo Vantage from the Microsoft Store - after uninstalling the existing Lenovo Vantage...

...doesn't change the options in Lenovo Vantage, or the options in the BIOS.

Thanks,

David Mawer

Hi David Mawer,

Thank you for the response.

If you have tried to uninstall then reinstall your Lenovo Vantage app, you may try to check if the Always On USB feature might be disabled here. Please let us know.

I may advise to check if you can disable the Charging In Battery settings within the BIOS, located under the Always On USB.

To go to BIOS:

Shutdown the machine, disconnect all external/peripheral devices (external mouse, keyboard, flashdrives, etc.), press and hold down the power button for 30-45 seconds to drain flea power.

Find and access the Novo button (a tiny pinhole with a U-turn arrow icon next to it) to turn on the device, the Novo menu will be shown in the screen. Navigate and select the BIOS Set Up.

Find Charging in Battery settings under Configuration tab. Tap on F10 to save and exit.

I hope this helps.

Regards.

Hi Dex_Lenovo,

So - I could not find a "Charging in Battery" menu option in the BIOS.

Also - there is no "Always On USB" menu option anywhere in the BIOS.

I've attached screen shots of the different BIOS sections, so you can see what is there.

(Information section)

BIOS-Information

(configuration)

BIOS Configuration

(Security)

BIOS Security

(Boot)

BIOS Boot

(Exit)

BIOS Exit

So - basically - it looks like that is my issue.

The BIOS doesn't have an "Always On USB" - but the feature is enabled for my laptop.

Sincerely,

David Mawer

Hey Dex_Leovo,

So - about the Lenovo Vantage App.

It does not have an option for me to access the "Always On USB" setting.

These are all the Battery settings I have: -

Lenovo Vantage Battery Settings

Also - the Toolbar doesn't have an option for "Always On USB": -

Hi David Mawer,

Can you check Vantage under Hardware tab > Power > USB Always on options? Else Power Manager -> Advanced Settings -> Global Power Settings tab, and check the boxes "Enable Always On USB" and "Enable even when the computer is in hibernation or powered off."

Regards.

Re:Lenovo L340 "Always On USB" option missing

Dear Dex_Lenovo,

So - the Lenovo Vantage app doesn't have a "USB Always on" option in the power section - the only options I have are shown in the screenshot in my previous post.

Also - I do not have the "Lenovo Power Manager" installed.

The support website tells me that this app is not compatible with my laptop.

Also - when I try to install it anyway - the setup process completes without installing the power manager.

Please excuse my frustration. Trying to install software that should not work, and does not work on my machine is extremely unpleasant.

Sincerely,

David Mawer.
