Question regarding HDD cables

2020-06-29, 19:40 PM

Hi all.

I recently purchased a Lenovo idepad 3 (15ARE05) and I wanted to add an HDD to it (It only came with 256gb SSD, which isn't nearly enough space for my needs). I looked up the parts and they're out of stock with Encompass - but I managed to find similar cables elsewhere that I could order.

Which brings me to my question: is it okay to use cables for similar series Lenovo laptops (other NBX0001xxxx series cables) with my ideapad 3? Or should I wait and see if Lenovo restocks the particular cables I need?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Towergod,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Checking with MTM 81W40015CF shows that you need:

PN 5C10S30052 HDD Cable L 81WB

PN 5B40S21982 HDD Bracket L 81WB

It would be 30 days wait in Lenovo encompass so it depends on your need.

Purchasing from Encompass have OEM guarantee for compatibility and durability.

Using the same part number for other resellers online makes compatibility closer but as third party source, we cannot guarantee it.

Personally, if its just a cable and bracket for a HDD then it doesn't have specific chips on it and only thing in question is the materials used.

As a practice when we buy online with anything, best to check return options and buyer's review of the product getting good ratings and feedback would make you confident on what you are getting.

I hope this helps answer your query and helps you decide on it.

Regards

Re:Question regarding HDD cables

Hi there,

I am trying the same upgrade. I first thought that these cables were all basically interchangable, just different lengths or left / right fitting and folding of cable.

However, I tried this with a NBX0001NQ00 and a NBX0001NOP10 and this definitely does NOT work. Inserting these cables looks quite scary by the way, causes total failure to boot or even go into BIOS. So, definitely not advised to try it.

Now Lenovo is providing more information on their support website and it looks like the correct type is NBX0001S900. I have now got this cable on order. Have not yet confirmed that it works by the way!

Cheers,

Al

Hi,

Would you be so kind to confirm whether the NBX0001S900 is correct cable for your computer?

I also have Ideapad 3 (15ADA05) and willing to upgrade my laptop with additional 2.5 inch SSD, so your feedback would be of a great help.

Thanks, Luka
