Screen Auto Brightens when window maximized and has dark texture

2021-05-28, 13:48 PM

I have tried very hard searching for a solution online and attempted many things to get this solved but to no avail.

I have tried checking regedit, reinstalling the graphics driver, doing cmd commands etc

Basically the strange thing that happens is that when I maximize a certain window which has dark black border, it automatically adjusts the brightness

from 0 all the way to 100.

I have checked power settings and device manager, but cannot see adaptive brightness anywhere.  I cannot even see the sensor driver which causes more confusion.

Can anyone please tell me how to stop this annoying feature as I play with my lava lamp on and this full brightness causes big problems to my eyes as it is super bright.

Thank you.

Hello @Elly32

I do see the 520-15IKB on the Win10 202h list if this is also your current version.

The 520s is a different version too from your 81BF007CAU IP520-15ikb.

If the Configuration setting is not on your BIOS then try to proceed with the steps provided previously:

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht500157/?CID=ww%3Alenovosocial%3A20x9m6

Update us back how things go.

Regards,

Dex

Welcome to the Community Forums Elly32,

I might suggest trying to check if your current BIOS version is matches the recommended BIOS version uploaded on the support site.

You may check here to see your current BIOS version first.

Once done, head to support site. Type in your machine serial number to load the necessary drivers. Head to drivers and Software tab, click on Manual Update, then find the BIOS/UEFI drivers. Compare if these two matches.

If the BIOS versions match, I would try to load the BIOS to defaults.

Perform a static discharge/power cycle
- Make sure there is still remaining battery power, able to power up the machine.
- Disconnect all cables and/or peripheral devices connected to the machine (ex. power cable, hdmi cable, external mouse/keyboard, flashdrives, etc).
- Ensure that device is powered/switched off.
- Press and hold down the power button for as long as 60 seconds to drain flea power or excess voltage.

Perform/load BIOS defaults:
- Make sure that the machine is properly powered down/switched off.
- Find the Novo Button. How a Novo button should look like: https://support.lenovo.com/us/fr/solutions/ht062552
- Access/click this by using an unfolded paperclip or by using something similar to the latter.
- Machine will power up to Novo Menu. Navigate and select using the arrow keys to BIOS Set Up.
- Inside the BIOS Set Up, navigate to the Exit Menu. Select Load Setup Default - click Enter, select YES and click Enter.
- Select Exit and Save Changes then click Enter, select YES and click Enter.
- The computer will start up.

Also, you need to share the machine type model / MTM (ex. 81C70000RK) from the sticker as it would help us detail more about your machine variant. The machine type model / MTM consists of more than four characters.

Update us soon as convenient.

Regards.
Dex_Lenovo

Hi Dex, Thank you very much for the quick response, I have had an issue previously when updating the BIOS version. Are you leading to the issue being from my current BIOS version?

Hi Elly32,

At some point, some updates are not properly configured when machine takes an update or proceeds to installation, hence, try to check first if both BIOS versions match.

Let us know about the needed information from the initial reply when convenient.

Hi Dex,

I have attached all the information you requested and it seems the BIOS versions do not match, however I was previously requested to update the bios on another occasion

and it never got through the booting and kept crashing.

I do not want to update the bios and have no access to the machine.

Thank you.

Hi Elly32,

Try to check if your machine has an adaptive brightness setting that is currently enabled, try to disable this.

For Win 8:

- Search Power Options at Windows Start.
- Select Change Plan Settings for the currently selected power plan (default is Balanced).
- Click Change advanced power settings.
- Scroll down to Display. Expand the list to show Enable adaptive brightness.
- Change On battery and Plugged in to the desired setting, either On or Off.
- Click Apply, then OK.

For Win 10:

- Open Settings.
- Look for Display at the left region, check or uncheck the setting 'Change brightness automatically when lighting changes' under Brightness and color.
- Close the settings.
- Alternatively, you can check this on the Power Options.
- Check your current power plan's advanced settings. For example, the High Performance (etc.). Click on Display to see the list of features and check for Enable adaptive brightness.
- Turn off Enable adaptive brightness if this is available, click on Ok after.

Regards.

Just to clarify as I believe this was not yet directly answered: is your current machine BIOS version still different from the recommended BIOS version uploaded on the support page? Steps are given on early reply on how you can compare.

Let us know.

Hi Elly32,

Initially you can try following the suggested steps here.

If such is not an option or did not work then follow the link provided here.

Lastly, try booting to the BIOS and see if changing the Configuration setting to high performance would help.

If you have Lenovo Vantage then check the same option else set a power plan in power option to full performance.

Update us how it goes.

Regards.
Dex
