Several Questions about AC Adapters

2021-04-27, 20:55 PM

I have several questions about the AC adapter below.

https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/accessories-and-monitors/chargers-and-batteries/chargers/PWR-ADP-BO-45W-AC-Wall-AdapterUL/p/GX20K11838

1. What chemicals listed under Proposition 65 are in the adapter?

2. Are these chemicals the same as the ones in the ADP-45DW B 20V2.25A COO that came with my Lenovo Ideapad 330S-15IKB 81F5?

I have no idea what "Proposition 65" is so I cannot say for sure, but as you use the adapter as designed and dispose of it at properly when done, I think any chemicals used to manufacturer it will be safely contained inside.

AC Adapters are just transformers, so they usually contain a magnet and two copper coils that make up the primary and secondary windings, so I doubt they contain many harmful chemicals.

Cheers,

Then why did my adapter contain a warning for lead?

Small amounts of lead are used in copper alloy, high melt solders, some electronic components, and in the PVC coating of appliance cords etc, but you will find those in nearly any electronic devices, including cellphones, but as long as you recycle them properly they do not pose any health risk because the lead is encapsulated.
