Storage upgrade for Lenovo ideapad 720-15IKB 81AG0002UK

2019-05-14, 21:17 PM

Hi everyone, I am trying to install additional storage on my laptop. By default the laptop comes with a 256GB SSD and I would like to increase that storage if possible.

I found the user manual on here which enabled me to  open up the laptop and have a look inside.

I have 2 options:

1. [Preferred option] I have an existing SSD (see image below) which fits perfectly into the space occupied by the plastic caddy on the bottom right of the system. Is there a slot on the motherboard that I can use to connect this SSD in addition the existing one? If so, where is this slot located on the board and what cable connector will i need to buy?

2. On page 45 (41) of the manual, there is an HDD slot on the motherboard which enables another hard drive to be connected in addition to the existing SSD. Can anyone recommend a compatible hard drive that can be bought as well as the correct cable connector?

Thanks guys!

The simple solution is to get a SATA to USB connecter, and just use one of the usb ports to connect the new SSD.

@WizTech33 Thanks for your proposed solution which I am well aware of.

However I need help implementing one of the 2 options mentioned because I personally think it is a neater (more compact) idea to replace the plastic caddy inside my laptop with either a HDD or SSD instead of dragging around an external USB drive.

I just need help figuring out what cable connector to use and where to establish the connection on the motherboard.

Any help implementing 1 of these 2 options will be much appreciated.

The connector in the image abouve looks to be a 14 pin ribbin cable connection. Im unsure if it is for storage or not. Most storage connections are SATA.
