Temperature/Fan issue 15ARE05 Ideapad 5 AMD

My 15ARE05 with the newest E7CN25WW Bios Update runs the CPU very very hot when almost idling (hitting 100°C Tctl/Tdie). I know that the fan table was adressed in this Bios update but although officially specified by AMD up to 105° this undeniably shortens the lifespan of the system.

I bought the 4800U and I know that a CPU that scores almost 4000 points in Cinebench will not operate quietly. I am fine with that. If I wanted a machine that boils the internals by shutting down the fan and fails after two years I would´ve bought Apple.

I ask you to implement a fan curve that keeps the CPU at a reasonable temperature (<85°C) OR BETTER give us a BIOS setting or program that let´s us adjust the fan curve within safe boundaries. If that means that the fan is spinning constantly at a low speed I can live with that much better than the current situation: 2 minutes silence, 2 minutes loud fan noise, 2 minutes silence, and temps skyrocketing.

Especially the constant heating, cooling, heating, cooling kills lead free solder joints.

Please report this to your BIOS engineering deparment. Thank you.

Try the rollback to the 1909 update. Every single 15ARE05 that I've updated to Version 2004 has had the same issues.

There's an issue with this update, and if you look on the main support page and check the link for the devices supported under Version 2004 ours are not on it.

Which performance mode is set in bios? Have you tried all three?

Also you could try to create your own fan control profile, see

Did you install the latest Windows Update, aka the May 2020 Update/Windows 10 Version 2004?

If so try to rollback to Version 1909. The 2004 update isn't fully baked yet, even though it's released) and causes a ton of issues on the Ryzen 4000 Based Lenovo machines.

You seem to dislike this version and post this on every thread. I would not generalize your personal bad experience with particular configuration on entire notebook line / operating system combination.

From my personal experience I can't observe any issue with this Windows version on my notebook, never seen since about one month, and installed it from day one.

Notebook is in use every day for few hours.

It is set to the Lowest - Battery Saving Profile.

And before the E7CN25WW Bios Update that didn't happen, right? Just wondering if you can restore the old bios version (not sure where to get the old bios file)? Have you tried the "intellegent cooling" mode? May be it is rellally more intelligent?

Re:Temperature/Fan issue 15ARE05 Ideapad 5 AMD

Right, with the old BIOS the fan curve was more reasonable, but I had massive problems with the Lenovo dock, rendering the device useless (when the dock was plugged in, the device would set CPU into permanent cTDP down = 400MHz on all cores fixed). So old Bios isn´t an option.Played around with Notebook Fan Control but did not suceed.

I´ll try Intelligent Cooling when I get home later.

I'm a retired former Microsoft employee of nearly 20 years, AndreyL.

I'm aware of how software works, and it's an issue I've tracked across multiple Ideapads personally.

I'm here to help, not to satiate personal drama.

Oh man, I have the same problem. Have you managed to solve it? Windows 1909 version or custom fan profile?
