USB disk keeps connecting and disconnecting loop

2021-03-28, 12:47 PM

Dear all,

I have bought a Lenovo ideapad 5-15ARE05 Laptop Type 81YQ running Windows 10 20H2 build SO 19042.870

This week I have tried to connect my external usb drive but the system keeps connecting and disconnecting it in weird loop.

Basically, I plug in the drive, it is recognized (black) and configured (blu) but after a few seconds it is deleted/removed.

I disabled the USB Power save option, reinstalling the drivers, even the fast boot but no solutions.

Do you have any suggestions?

Please note that the usb drive works on another laptop.

Thanks!

Hello,

The USB you are attempting to access could be encrypted in some manner.   Windows 10 Professional has encryption tools not available upon Windows 10 Home.  So an encrypted USB that seamlessly works on machines with Professional version won't open on Home version.  In a business any number of "private" encryption schemes could be active.  Check with the person who gave you the USB, and your local businesses IT department.

OR it could be something else.....

Hello trinacriax,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community boards.

Have you specifically installed/updated your Windows from a previous version?

You can check the Windows 10 20H2 compatibility matrix and see if your machine unit is listed among the devices compatible to this version.

Regards.

Dear all,

thank you for you suggestions on how to fix it.

The usb was not encrypted and the windows OS was updated and usb drive compatible.

At the end It was something else.

I solved the problem by reinstalling and updating all the drivers.

I was surprised that after unboxing a brand new notebook a regular usb stick and a usb external hd were not working.

Anyway, now it works properly.

thank you and best regards,

Alessandro R.
