Using Multiple external monitors with Ideapad L340

2021-07-21, 15:26 PM

Hi,

I have an Ideapad L340 17" and have been able to get an external monitor working via HDMI but I want to connect a second external monitor.  I have tried USB->HDMI and USB->VGA adaptors but neither works.

Is there anyway of getting 2 external monitors working?  I know that Lenovo do a number of USB docking ports but don't know which (if any) would provide this facility.

Your advice would be appreciated

Simon

Good day.

Searching for specification sheets at the PSREF, I find three L340 17" platform documents:

L340 17API - https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/IdeaPad/ideapad_L340_17API/ideapad_L340_17API_Spec.pdf
L340 17IWL - https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/IdeaPad/ideapad_L340_17IWL/ideapad_L340_17IWL_Spec.PDF
L340 17IRH - https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/IdeaPad/ideapad_L340_17IRH_Gaming/ideapad_L340_17IRH_Gaming_Spec.pdf

Based on the above spec sheets, none of these platforms support more than one external display, and that is only through HDMI.

As requested by Dex, please post your machine type-model number (MT-M) to better pinpoint which specific machine/platform you have. Please do not post your serial number.

Regards.

Welcome to the Community Forums @SimonRoe

We can try to further check, if you can share your machine type model / MTM (ex. 81C70000RK) from the sticker as it would help in specifying your machine variant. A machine type model / MTM consists of more than four characters. Please refrain from posting your machine serial number.

Update us soon as convenient.

Regards.
Dex

Hi @SimonRoe

Thanks for updating the thread. Checking on the product specification sheet of ideapad L340-17IRH shows the support capacity of display that it would  come from the in-built screen display itself and from the external display coming from the HDMI port:

Monitor Support
Supports up to 2 independent displays via native display and 1 external monitor; supports external monitor via HDMI® (up to 4096x2160@60Hz)

Furthermore, checking for an available docking station from Lenovo Smartfind using your given machine type model / MTM doesn't seem to give any compatible docking that is specific or intended to this model. The HDMI port is the sole port remaining to be the only way to provide external display.

You may want to use a display splitter instead if you wish to use two monitors.

Regards.
Dex
