Windows activation key after hardware change

2018-06-13, 11:01 AM

Hello,

I had to completely format my laptop’s hard drive and this caused me to loose the windows 10 activation key that came with it by factory since I didn’t do any recovery files.

How can i reactivate the windows using the serial number of the laptop ?

Hi Ryanshaar,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

OEM pre installed Windows computers would automatically activate soon as it gets information from the Microsoft activation server using an OEM installer. You do not need the serial number of the laptop for it.

As long as you have the same version that came with the machine, you may need to skip activation in some to do it later. Others may need to apply Windows updates.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards
