why can't Lenovo just let me download the drivers?

Why can't Lenovo just let me download the drivers?

Why are they forcing me to UPDATE drivers on a machine that I am prepared to wipe clean?

I have a NEW  up-to-date vanilla Windows 10 install disk.

I AM WIPING IT CLEAN AND RE-INSTALLING

I am the original owner of this  500-15ACZ laptop.

I REGISTERED IT 4 YEARS AGO.

HP GIVES ALL OF THEIR DRIVERS.

I HAVE 4 LENOVO COMPUTERS here.

This may be the last.

Hello,

I am confused with your question regarding downloading drivers.

The process I use for reloading Windows 10 is:

Prework, validate your Microsoft Account has your exact system serial number registered as appropriate owner.  Remember, Microsoft and Lenovo are completely separate companies.

A)  Download for free, a Windows 10 Installation iso image from Microsoft.com.  (Select the version for installation upon a different PC.)

B)  Use the special program from Microsoft.com to load the install iso image upon a USB.  I think it helps if the USB is unformatted, or NTFS, and unpartitioned.

C)  Prepare a completely empty and unformatted hard drive (system drive if it is SSD.)  use fdisk and if you feel it necessary, your favorite program to write it with all zeroes  Let the installation program figure out MBR and bootable flags, avoid setting those manually.

D)  Boot into BIOS screens and reset BIOS to Factory Defaults, UEFI mode.  The last page of BIOS should have a toggle for this.  Then unset Secure Boot enabled to allow boot from USB.

E)  Plug the Windows Install bootable USB into a slot.

F)  Remove all other cables, docks, speakers, microphones, and so forth, except for the energized power adapter.  If possible use the power supply shipped OEM with the computer.

G) Boot the Windows install USB, and perform full system install.

H) Windows 10 will self register and self activate.  If it asks for a key code, simply pass that by, no key is needed.  (It is already stored on your mother board.  You can see it on the first BIOS screen.)  The registration and activation happens during the automatic Windows updates.

I) Finally, if you want to, find support.lenovo.com for PC's, enter your system serial number, and use Lenovo Software Update to detect, download and install necessary drivers.  The maintenance program, Lenovo Vantage becomes more useful as systems age.

If you paid for your Windows 10 installation disk, try to return it for credit.

Sincerely,

Usedtoberich

You can install Lenovo drivers manually here:

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en

or install Lenovo Vantage (microsoft store) and it will do it automatically.

You can get win 10 free here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

I have Windows running, but NO WIRELESS DRIVER. My Ethernet port is broken.

THAT STUPID SPRING LOADED THING BROKE YEARS AGO.

For some reason , Wireless driver didn't install from the vanilla Windows 10 disk.

That is the problem now.

sorry found the driver
