310-15ABR Laptop (ideapad) won't boot

My 4 month old IdeaPad was working fine until yesterday. While watching a TV show the screen went black and now it won't boot up. I get the Lenovo screen followed by a black screen, sometimes with an arrow pointer sometimes not.

I've tried draining the battery and pressing the power button, the only change was after the black screen it went much brighter but then nothing more.

Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 310-15ABR Laptop (ideapad) won't boot

On the left side of your laptop, between the combo jack and card reader, there is small button called the NOVO button (see page 6 of this manual)

With the laptop powered completely off, try pressing that button (using the tip of a pen etc.) until the laptop turns on.     If it works as expected, you laptop should load up a menu with the options to run Lenovo OneKey Recovery, enter the BIOS setup utility, or to enter the Boot menu.     If the menu loads, see if you can enter the BIOS setup utility.. and then report back.

Re: 310-15ABR Laptop (ideapad) won't boot

Thanks JD, I've been googling my issue and found some people saying not to do anything with bios. My personal computer knowledge is very weak. The laptop is still under warranty, but I bought it in Canada and am now in Thailand.
Will your advice have any possible negative affects on the warranty?

Also will the battery charge have any effect. With the power cord attached and pressing the small button you recommended, will this power on the laptop with out pressing the actual power button?

No, you are not going to change anything in the BIOS, but if you can actually get into the BIOS, it will verify that your laptop screen is still wowrking.

Just press and hold the power button until it powers off, you can leave the AC adapter plugged in.

Don't run the One Key Recovery, or make any changes, just see if you can enter the BIOS/Setup utility, and if so you can just power off again.

Re: 310-15ABR Laptop (ideapad) won't boot

That is a good sign, that means that your screen is still working.

Do not do a One Key Recovery, or you could lose your data.

If you select the Boot Menu option, what options do you have (you want to see a hard drive as an option.

If hard drive is listed, select it and see if the system boots.
