320-14IKB Laptop (ideapad) Hard Disk Clicking Sound

Good day.

I bought a new LENOVO laptop ( ideapad 320-14IBK ) three weeks ago.

When I started my laptop and perfoming my daily job,

I could hear the clicking sound clearly from the hard disk/drive.

May I know how to solve this problem or reduce the clicking sound ?

Thanks and regards,

L.Y CI

Re: 320-14IKB Laptop (ideapad) Hard Disk Clicking Sound

Hi Liaoyuan,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

I am sorry to hear that the click sound getting from the hard drive is affecting your daily job.

I would suggest you to run the hardware scan from the Lenovo solution center and see if it comes up with any error and if it shows up any error please capture the screenshot and attach it for the next reply. And if i may ask you from which side are you getting the click sound.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.

Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Regards,

Rameez

Re: Hardware Scan : 320-14IKB Laptop (ideapad) Hard Disk Clicking Sound

Hi Liaoyuan,

Thank you for the reply.

After going through the hardware test that you have done, i suspect that the optical drive would have gone  faulty and not the hard drive. If you can please unplug the optical drive and then check if you still get that click sound. If you are not getting the click sound then for sure the optical drive is gone faulty, you can take it to the closest lenovo service provider

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.

Reply again: Hardware Scan : 320-14IKB Laptop (ideapad) Hard Disk Clicking Sound

I did feedback this problem to the seller. He showed me another new laptop ( 320-14IKB  ) and it had the same problem too. He explained that the clicking sound coming from the HDD is normal and natural. Is it true ? Smiley Sad

I had an old laptop and I never heard the clicking sound like that before. Smiley Frustrated

Re: Reply again: Hardware Scan : 320-14IKB Laptop (ideapad) Hard Disk Clicking Sound

Hi Liaoyuan,

Thank you for the reply.

There are a number of different hard drive clicking sounds and there are many different causes.  Some of the hard drive clicking sounds are normal sounds for the drive, some are due to software or drivers, some are due to other hardware issues and sometimes, unfortunately, the hard drive clicking sound may be due to a mechanical (or system board) fault on the hard drive itself.

I would suggest you to perform a checkdisk on your system and see if it shows up any error.

STEPS

  1. Double-click My Computer, and then right-click the hard disk that you need to check.
  2. Click Properties, and then click Tools.
  3. Under Error-checking, click Check Now. A dialog box that shows the Checkdisk options is displayed.
  4. Select the Automatically fix file system errors check box and select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box.
  5. Click Start.

Note: If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open (which is very likely), you will receive the following message:

The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?

  1. Click Yes to schedule the disk check.
  2. Close all applications and restart your computer.
  3. Checkdisk will now run when the system restarts. This may take some time and you should monitor this to see if any errors are found.

" And of course you may find other solutions being offered when searching the net"

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.

Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Rameez

I also have this problem. Same model.

My laptop is just 3 days old. I already had it changed for a new one but the new one has the same problem too
